I hate today

This morning I woke up to find a terrible thing.

Chance, a companion of just under nine years, passed away last night. I adopted him from the Denver Dumb Friends Leage on November 1994 in Denver Colorado while I was still driving trucks. He got to see alot of country in those short couple of months before I quit driving. Afterwards, he was always by my side pretty much everywhere I went in travel. He came down with me to Texas a year later when I relocated to a better job despite some people trying to get me to get rid of him due to having to move into an apartment initially. I wouldn't hear of it. His favourite place to curl up at night was right along the back of my legs, resting his head on my ankles. Always smiling, and always happy, he never met a soul that he didn't like. While I don't know what hs exact age was, he still seemed to young to be gone already. I'm still surprised of the suddenness.

Goodbye old friend, you left way too soon.

Its tough to lose a good friend. Sorry to hear the news. :(

I have had to put a dog to sleep when he had Congestive Heart Failure 5 years ago. I have a new puppy of 4 years that I love more that life itself.

My condolences on your loss.:(

its absolutely THE best thing ive ever see here at MS, and possibly one of the best essays ive EVER read.

you may have seen it at the time, but its a read.

Sorry for your loss. I've lost a few dogs/companions over the years as well... Talk about beings on this earth with no judgement and unconditional love! :)

Thrillbilly: I agree, that essay is the best thing I've read on this site since I joined over a year ago. Thanks for re-posting it.

All of us "dog people" feel your loss.

I'm sorry to hear about it dp. :( He's awaiting the day he sees you again to ride the big truck in the sky.

Many thanx for the kind words everybody. Chance is literally the first pet that I've ever lost this way. In the past, I've always been able to prepare myself for having to put one down. It would still hurt, but would be lessened somewhat due to the circumstances for having to do that deed.

Thrillbilly, that essay was indeed a wonderful thing to read. I can only wish that I could put words together that way, as what I did write definitely did not do Chance justice. My mind is still a jumble trying to get yesterday sorted out.

All I can say right now is this, I HATE this year, and I cannot wait for it to be over. It started out bad, and bad things just kept piling on all year. I'm hoping and praying that nothing else bad happens. I don't know if I can take much more.

My condolences.

If you can, please take solace in the fact that he was with the master he loved on his last day, instead of leaving life under cruel and lonely circumstances that other dogs must sometimes face.

All I can say is hang in there... :(

I am having a really bad year as well, and I just take comfort in the fact that God knows where my threshold lies and that he is preparing me for bigger (and better) things to come.

You are also going through an evolution of sorts, and bigger things are destined for you as well.

Keep on plugging, you've got nowhere to go but up! ;)

My sympathies for Chance as well...from one dog lover to another.

Very sorry for your loss :(

rickg 10-15-2003 10:12 AM

sorry

:( :(

Maybe we are kind of a family here. I don't even really know you, nor your dog, but this about brought tears. Take care.

They ask for so little and give back so much in return.

Once again, many thanx to everyone for the kind words. If there is a bright side to all this, it's that it occurred over my two days off from work. I was pretty much able to just do nothing yesterday - and I needed it. I still have Nikita and Snow to go out and hug when I need a little help. Needless to say, they're getting TONS of attention - which they are enjoying alot. I'll be looking at having a small marker made for his grave over the next week or so.
