New Engine

Hello partners in crime. I just finished installing a new engine in my 1988 230E. The old engine died with terrible noises and was given a fitting funeral :). I happened to stumble on to an M102.981 engine with about 37,000 miles on it for 3700$. Rebuilding the old engine would have cost twice as much or more.
It took about 30 hours installing the engine and with wery few difficulties. You can contact me if you want more details and i have pics.

I had a 230E as well! It had a 5-speed manual overdrive transmission. Great car... kind of miss it especially its Diamond Blue color.

Is there a lot of road salt used during winter in Iceland?

Salt

YES there is way too much salt used on Icelandic roads and its causing mayhem with our cars.

I just guess you might use a lot of salt from looking at the condition of your components under the hood.

Yes, we get salted a lot in Northern Virginia. South of this state there is not much salt used, but here they always put down WAY too much salt during the first snow storm. I think they don't want any criticism about not treating the roads properly in response to snow or ice.

Then if it is a really snowy winter, you see less and less salt each time - until they finally go over budget. It can be pretty bad to have a snow storm in March around here! :)

I try to keep the MBs off salted roads because I think they just dissolve under those conditions.
