This hurts my feelings

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6338&item=2437754573

The fact that someone is willing to pay five times what I payed for my Mercedes just for the slot. Ouch.

If you want to cry look at his other auctions. If you really want to cry see what it takes to get get good placement on a new Ferrari list as a first time F-car owner.

Dear drbrandini:

You should read the ad even more carefully. It clearly stated that
the bidders "ARE ONLY BIDDING ON THE RIGHT TO PURCHASE THIS CAR.... The actual purchase price will be MSRP PLUS WHATEVER YOU BID".

Ouch!!!!

I wish I were rich ..... Oh well, even if I were rich, I would only buy a 4-door sedan or a van.

Everything is relative. Just as there are some who make in a year what you make in a month, there are others who make it in an hour...

I may be sliced and diced for this comment, but anybody who buys a new car is a fool(unless they can REALLY afford it). Smart people buy used cars with meticulous maintence records after that $70K depreciation hits the original owner.

Mercedes seems to be pumping out a lot of these AMG models. I see a lot of them in my area. They are not as rare as I thought they would be.

I have to agree with that. Bought a new car once. Never will again.

MB doesn't allow markups above MSRP. Guess this is a way to circumvent that. There you go guys. Good way to make a few extra bucks. Sell your slot to the highest bidder.

This is nothing new. It happened with the CLK, the CL, and the G when they were introduced. People with bucks to spare are willing to spend them to be the "first on the block" with a new model.

BTW, for a supposedly "limited" model, I've seen an awful lot of G55s.

I'll have to agree with that also, Unless I'm just making tons I won't be buying a new one. Basically, I'll be buying used benzes for a while.

No, buying a new car is not always a waste of money - especially with diesels. We all know how few people in the US understand proper care of diesel vehicles. Additionally, I have the comfort of knowing how well the vehicle was cared for since the day it rolled off of the lot.

Additionally, if nobody bought new cars, there wouldn't be used ones to buy later.

It's not so much that "smart" people buy used with meticulous records, rather that the rest of us working stiffs who want to own a vehicle that truly is out of our league (and income) have to settle for just that...a used car!

How else does a guy like me pushing code all day get to own 3 nice MBs?

That's what my neighbors want to know?

The C230 was our firts new MB, and probably the last. Just too expensive in depreciation.

However, the FSS is the enemy of used car buyers. I really don't want to buy a car that has had oil changes at 22,000 kilometers. It's going to make it tougher to buy a well-serviced MB, as "well serviced" means abused.

As the C230 comes to the end of the warranty period, I need to make a decision about keeping it or buying a new car. Look at the new car cost:

2004 C230 Sedan, about $43,000. Value in five years? Around $20,000. The cost of depreciation alone is $23,000. If I take, say, one third of that $23,000 and keep it as a fund to keep the C230 going, that allows me $7500 in repairs. That's lots! And don't count routine maintenance in that, as the new C230 would require it too. (no "free" maintenance in Canada) Both cars need things like tires, brakes and oil changes.

Eventually, the 98 will be past it's useful life. That's when I'll buy a three year old MB from someone that ignored the stupid FSS.

I think that's why the 98 and 99 E300s are still so expensive. Virtually the only people who bought them were MB Diesel afficianados who pampered them from the beginning and they know what they have. That's certainly the case with mine.
