My guess is that you've justified buying the huge tub of sunroof 'gleisspaste'(sp?) from the dealer.

thanks sixto, ill buy some tomorrow. im at that damned dealer everyday now haha!

ive begun by spraying some simple green on it and scrubbing. some stuff is so hard and caked on there that i took some sand paper to it to get it off. i hope that's not a bad thing.

maybe ill spray the peices black when im done.

Well, what kinda solvent do you have at your disposal? :)

I'd maybe start with something like brake cleaner, sprayed on a piece of heavy duty paper towel, and just run it back and forth (although isopropyl alcohol would work in a pinch too). Be prepared to use lots of towels.

I dunno about the grease, I'd like to hear about some recommendations myself. The last time I greased the tracks the seat seemed to "slide" a bit unevenly on the rails.

Try ScotchBrite pads. That green hairy abrasive works great on that kind of stuff. I use it everyday.
Good Luck!

I'm going for the same project in the near future. I'm going to try vinigar and water solution. Just like cleaning water spots from windows. Vinigar will deaden rust and desolve calcium.

For lubricant, I'd go to a bicycle store and get some of the teflon based chain grease and use that. It will keep them lubed without attracting a lot of dirt. Dirt will stick to regular grease (WD-40) like glue!

Bon Ami spray will take care of it. I used to clean corroded sterilizers it works better than anything I've ever seen.
