Hi everyone I'm back!
My wife and I have just returned from Bremen, Germany. My grandmother left me her estate. - A castle! A real castle! She passed away after a long suffering case of cancer. She had not been conscience for over a year. Her estate, over 25 acres, was wooded and beautiful. The castle itself is over four centuries old. I knew it was part of our family history but was always too busy to visit her. We considered selling our beautiful house in Cave Creek, Arizona, but getting this place in order was out of the financial question. We sold it to the city of Bremen as a historical landmark. What an adventure! I saw many vintage Mercedes! We rented a E 320. To all my friends - I'm glad to be back! Mark

so let me get this straight, you inherit a castle in Germany from your dying grandmother, of which you were too busy to go see before she passed away, and then sold it?
|
Did you check the grounds for an abandoned 770 or 540S?

Love them now.
My grandmother would not have anything to do with my father as I was growing up. She thought he was a real "prick", which he was. Leaving me her estate was her final "f**k you" to that bastard. I haven't talked to him in years. I have cousins spread through out Germany. She loved to travel, and loved Arizona. She visited me and my family many times over the years and her loss means much to my family. I had no idea that I was in her will. Guten Tag!

Too expensive!
I sold my 1979 450 SLC. It was starting to be a real "money pit". I loved it but my wife said she wants a SRX Caddie. The 450 SLC was her car. I will NEVER sell my "show room" condition, 1989 420 SEL . We're going SRX shopping Sunday.

Welcome back! Are there any pictures of the castle?
I have friends in England who live in a castle out in the countryside. Parts of the castle are 800 years old or more. I stayed with them for a week several years ago, also after a death in the family (my father). |
Yeah pics !!! Pics !!!

Pics will be forthcoming
Many digital pictures to upload. Pics soon!

Sorry to read about your loss.
You know, selling it as an historical landmark seems like a good thing. You can't take care of the place, but you're seeing that others will. ... waiting for the pics too ... |
Howdy Mark,
Glad to see you back. What did you do with the dogs while you were over there?¿ |
geeze Spock. ya had me scared a minute there:eek: :D

You made the right decision...these early castles are a HUGE maintenance nightmare! It's cool to be an owner, but unless you have deep pockets, you might as well have inherited an airline company! ;)
Never was interested in maintaining a loved one's estate. Have a hard enough time keeping up with my own! |
