Should I Be Distraught Over Sale?

I just agreed to sell my 1989 Garnet 300SE for $5,000.

It's just been repainted (could have been a better job, but it still glows), all new brakes including calipers & pads, rotors and even some lines, new radiator and hoses, new rear bilstein shocks, BRAND NEW Michelin X1 tires, rims completely refinished, new power antenna, all new headlights (old ones were yellowing and dull).

I advertised Ruby here last year, but didn't get any takers (kinda' surpised me).

Anyway, a year ago last Labor Day, someone cut up the front drivers seat and passager seat and they're still that way. Knowing that you can purchase new leather from Performance Products.com for $475 (including the head rest) for each seat, that shouldn't distract too much. If you search on my name, you'll see the tread with the pictures of the seats.

Once the seats are fixed, she's mint!!! UUUUHHHH

She's by baby...did I give her away or was that a fair price? It seems like the prices for the 80's vintage MB's are dropping a bit...True/False?

Being out of a job since Sept 30th from Ford, I'm in need of some "bread"

What do you think???

P.S. Might I also add....completely originally rust free!!! By-the-way...this is not a current picture!

We're MB nuts...it's OKAY in this forum to be distraught over a sale...regardless of whether you "lost your shirt" or "made a killing"!

You probably got a fair price for it...cars are not an investment, and you never get what you invest when you replace worn parts for new...

...nice car though...

I remember the seat slashing incident. What a bummer that was!
Price sounds fair. Maybe a bit on the low, but still fair. I paid $6k for my SD, which is not near as nice as your SE. But mine had a fresh engine & trannie & paint, so I coughed up the price.

Yeah! It made me sick and I just know I'm not going to be happy with the new seats and I'm NOT totally pleased with the repaint. So, I might as well just dump this one and wait for that perfect SEC. I just got laid off from Ford on Sept 30th and now I'm working on getting my Realtors License, which is something I've wanted to get into for a very long time anyways. So, thank you Ford for kicking my ass out of my Comfort Zone! Times are tough right now, but the economy is approaching a nice "up swing" and Greenspan said that he was keeping the interest rates low, so now is my chance to make some serious cash and buy that perfect, rust free, MB from Arizona (or the like).

I feel for you.

I recently sold my wifes '79 450 SLC with mixed feelings. We had already put alot of money into the car and it still needed an engine overhaul badly. We put new leather interior, paint, suspension, windshields front and back, tires, and new steering box. Still needed rebuilt or new trans, and engine overhaul and all rubber widow and door seals. After all this she decided she wanted an SUV! I really did love this classic car, not many '79 SLCs on the road anymore and I understand why. Besides, My car which I will never sell an '89 420 SEL that is now in almost perfect condition now after $ 7000.00 dollars worth of loving attention, will probley need more expensive repair sometime in the future. I sold hers on E-BAY for about what I paid for it, minus what I spent. This is my car!

The W126 body style is so beautiful, but the SLC is also a rare timeless classic. It's a shame that you just didn't keep it someplace.

Here's another picture of my Ruby in front of my folks new place...there were still under construction at the time...what a place! This has to be one of my favorite pictures!

..........I couldn't load my picture...the system was saying it was too big. I tried to make it smaller but with no luck!
