survey question
I am writing an essay regarding the Kennedy assasination. Since I know we have several knowledgable people that frequent the forum, I would like to take a survey and see the results of it. I am hoping the results would help me with the essay.
My question is... why is the Kennedy assasination still talked about?(considering its been 40 years since it happened) Why do a big portion of the population think there is a conspiracy theory behind his death? I have writen down several reasons, but would like to see what other people think. Compare and contrast my findings with others. Thank you.. EDIT: being in college, I should have known to end questions with a question mark. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Snibble; 11-29-2003 at 06:53 PM. |

Could simply be a slow week for news. Talk radio in the SF Bay Area last week focused on the assassinations of George Moscone and Harvey Milk. I mean an inordinate amount of exposure. I'm glad Bush made that trip to Iraq to break the monotony.

I think you've asked the $64 question of the century. I've wondered the same thing for years now. He's dead, and nothings gonna change that. So what's the big deal?
But it seems some new stuff is bubbling to the surface after all these years. I've been watching alot of the programs on the History channel (my fav TV channel). So I guess it's just a morbid curiosity that keeps me watching, to see what may crawl out from under it's rock after all these years. The interview with that lady that was supposed to be Oswalds lover was quite interesting. But alot of the programs have just rehashed the same stuff we've heard for years, with still no definative answers.

Because many Americans, including me don't beleve Oswald did it. The shot that killed Kennedy came from the grassy knoll.

That's what that lady pretty much came out with. She said there were actually several people at the site, and Oswald told her just before the incident that he was going to be the only one that wasn't going to shoot the pres. I guess he was there, and did have a gun, but either didn't pull the trigger, or intentionally missed.
She says that afterwards, some mafia boss-dude called her up and told her to keep her mouth shut about what she knew, or else. ![]()

It was one of the most important events of the 20th century, and there has never been resolution. The Bay of Pigs, the Cuban
missile crisis, Khruschev threatening to bury us (or so we all thought), bomb shelters, little kids practicing 'duck and cover'--and then the president gets shot, and we don't know if it's the commies, the Mob or who. And before we can figure anything out, the apparent assassin gets killed, too. It's like Tom Clancy, except that lots of people were afraid the world might really get fried over it. Pearl Harbor, the death camps, the atomic bomb, Britney Spears--this one's probably right up there. I was joking with a 30 year-old last week that I bet she remembered exactly where she was when they announced that President Kennedy was shot. She didn't even realize I was kidding--she thought she might have just been a baby or something. It was sort of like Norman Invasion to her--something of apparently great importance that happened long, long ago. The younger one is, the harder it is to see the thing in context. But trust me, if it had turned out the Soviets had had a hand in it, the world (if any) would likely be a very different place today. That's the significance, I think. We came so close to oblivion, and it may have been only our ignorance of the truth that saved us. As long as there's no closure with respect to what really happened, that remains a big story story. Also, don't forget that many of the people who 'choose the news' today (Rather, Jennings and others) were right there in Dallas when it was unfolding. I'm sure to them it's like yesterday. |

Conspiracy theorists don't make money proving the status quo.

This country NEEDS to find out what really happened. The truth will bring us together.
