My good deed for the day
The girlfriend, Jill, and I were driving around downtown Atlanta on Sunday, partially to run errands, and partially just for the pleasure of wasting fuel in my 300SD on a gorgeous day. ;)
I was driving along one of our usual routes home after shopping in one of Atlanta's warehouse districts, which takes us by a long-standing Mercedes-Benz repair shop. Not one that I go to, becuase I do the majority of my own work, and also I feel that they are overpriced. Anyway, they have a lot of parts cars and customer's cars sitting in the parking lot around the shop, and since they are closed on Sunday, I was wondering why there was a guy inside one of the cars, seemingly tinkering around. Then I noticed that he had parked a Cadillac nearby, had the trunk open, and was putting several random parts inside. Then I noticed he was looking around pretty often, in what looked to me to be a "suspicious" way, and he was carrying a hammer. Jill and I both looked at each other and said, "That guy is breaking into cars!", so we turned around a block or two away, and casually drove by again. He seemed to notice us, but kept doing what he was doing. Jill wrote down the license plate # of his Caddy, and I called 911 on my cell phone and reported what I thought to be a burglary in progress. We drove on down the street a few blocks, and then curiosity got the best of us, and we just HAD to drive back by and see if he was gone, if the cops were there, or what. Two officers had already arrived, and seemed to be questioning the guy, so we drove on. Jill then asked, "What if that guy worked there, or was a customer, and it was his car?" I said, "Well, then they'll be able to confirm that, and they'll let him go." I'm pretty sure he was stealing parts, and if so, I hope they whacked him a couple of times and threw him in the clink! Scumbag... :D I feel very good about myself, especially since it was an MB shop! What are the odds, eh? Mike |
Nice job!

However, I do have a friend in Atlanta that DOES sell used parts. E-mail Chris at: crownautorecycling@adelphia.net. Tell him "rockstar" Mike sent you. :) Mike |
cool
Thanks-
Rock Star eh? I saw on one of your website links a Mercedes get-together from a while ago. Looks remarkably like the parking lot behind Highland Pet/San Francisco Coffee Roasting/ Tiburon Grill off North Highland. I used to live three blocks from there. crazy! Apparently lots of rock stars drink Doug's coffee at SFC... Kevin |
Mike,
Your act personifies what an upstanding, responsible citizen should do. Thanks for watching out for the rest of us :) |
Has anybody heard from Thrillbilly lately? Last time I talked with him he was REALLY wanting a glass sunroof. You don't think.........  :D

Good call Mike.
Most often, people don't wanna deal with others' problems, and just dismiss it as "yeah, he must belong there." |
