Christmas and family dynamics. The nerve of some people.

1) Person 1 visits his in-laws. Brings with him a reciprocating saw he just bought. Tells his MIL to cut him a check and wrap it since that's what he wants.

2) Person 2 wants to move Christmas dinner back 2 hours because she wants to get some sleep before dinner. OK, no problem, but it means making 6 other families rearrange their schedule. She ends up sleeping on the couch the whole time she's there, wakes up, announces she has a headache, and leaves.

3) Person 3 volunteers to cook Christmas dinner. She tells her mother not to bring the candied sweet potatoes. Ham, mashed potatoes, and green beans would be enough. Of course we all remember the year she ran out of food at Thanksgiving.

4) This one family thinks it's OK to go out for brunch and then come to dinner full to the gills.

I think (1) is the ultimate in low class behaviour. What do you guys think?

I wasn't there for (1). Thank goodness. Guess MIL just wrote the check and told him to take it, she's not wrapping it. I would have wrapped it... around his head!

Have I seen some of those folks on Jerry Springer?

One of my kids (18 at the time) arrived at her granny's and said something like, "Let's hurry-up and open presents I don't want to spend more time here than I have to." Our response was basically not to let the screen door hit her in the a$$ on the way out.

She learned a lot from that bad behavior, as did her cousins, sibs, and so forth.

Sometimes you call them out in public.

Some of these folks should consider taking advice from the guests on Jerry Springer. Number 2 is actually 30 years old. Number 1 is full partner in an engineering firm.

Me? I like to use mshop to vent sometimes.

Better than having the cops come to break up the fight in the back yard -- a friend of mine has gotten to the point he no longer participates in the "family events" at holidays. Who wants to get drunk and bloody?
