Maybe they are starting to figure it out
In reading about the review on the new Corvette (400 HP/400FTLBS torque) they made reference to:
"Fixed headlights offer the advantages of lower weight, less complexity and superior lighting performance, according to a GM statement. " Too bad they did not keep this in mind with the key. "The C6 lacks traditional door handles. They are replaced by membrane-activated switches inside a recess behind each door. The doors unlock when a specially coded keychain is brought near the car. Once the keychain is brought inside the cockpit and the brake or clutch is depressed, the engine can be started by pressing a rocker switch on the instrument panel." Here is a link to the rest of the article. I've grown up watching the Corvette and personally think that this body style looks good. Almost like Honda had something to do with it .http://money.cnn.com/2003/12/19/pf/autos/corvette_c6/index.htm?cnn=yes Oh yea - I'm still too frugile to own one .

Could be the angle of the picture but it doesn't look as wide as the 5th generation vette. Nice looking though. I need to see it in motion.

I think the headlights look ripped off from a 360 modena... could just be me. I'd rock it, don't like the tail-end tho.

Those flip up headlights were always a puzzle to me. Why in the world would anyone want a vehicle that got its' aerodymanics totally screwed up when you put the headlights on? This is supposed to be a high performance car, right? I've been in a few C5's, and IMHO can't hold a candle in overall quality and all round performance to my 95 SL.

blacked-out headlamps have a similar effect - the same effect that sunglasses have on a Secret Service agent. personally, I want a car with large exposed headlamps. This imparts a "forthright", wide-eyed personality to the car, and allows you to use them to "flash-to-pass" instantly. this is the reason why the Euro-headlamps on a W201 and a W124 transform the look of the car. The main lamps are bigger and the entire cluster has depth and a sophisticated look. Using clear indicators makes the headlamps look even bigger. just my Cdn$0.02 |

I think Jim's right in that the styling reminds me an awful lot of the Honda / Acura NSX.

Hmm....I'm usually anti-gadget, because more gadgets on a car means more problems, but I always loved the look of the hidden lights on the Vette. I think it was one of THE identifying traits of the car. I'm sad to see them go.
![]() But I bet that 400hp sure is a LOT of fun! ![]() Mike

As I just dumped my latest GM built lemon, it's just another barely assembled GM built bucket of bolts to keep their service departments fully booked - especially with that gizmo door opening system.

Wonder if, while driving down the road with the top down and the "specially coded key chain" blows out. Does the car shut down? How in the world do you turn it off? Walk away from it ?

All these years, they've been trying to do better than the '63 Split-Window Coupe's styling, and they just can't do it!

In the late 70's, buddy of mine and I would car pool to work. Switch off nights driving. Was more fun when he drove. Many nights he would drive his '63 split window. When he bought it, it did not have the original engine, just some laying-around type 327. Fellow that sold him the car offered him a 427 for it. Dave declined, said "I can kill myself just fine with the 327".
