2004 Jag XJR or a 2004 BMW 745i Sport?

Which would you take and why?

Remember, the Jaguar XJR (and Euro Super V-8 which is a Vanden Plas with the XJR's engine and brakes) has Brembo brakes.

I drove a 2004 Jaguar XJR and it was awesome! In rolling acceleration on the highway, it does accelerate, it flat-out THRUSTS. Of course, I haven't driven an E55 AMG though but the S Class competes with the new XJ, not the E Class.

In all the mags, TV pgms, and sites I've seen, the 2004 Jag is highly regarded... not like it's 3 year predecessors that weren't very well critiqued. I would go with the Jag simply because I like the design better and it's something a little different. After saying all that, I suspect the BMW is probably a better built car but I just don't care for them too much

remember my motto: use the force, and choose the one you "look good" in

I really like Jags. I would go for the XJR, it is one really elegant car. BTW the XJR cmpetes with the S55 not the E55. The new fake Jag competes with the E55.

Go with the Jag. The quality of the 1998 and later cars is amazing. The Jaguar interiors make our Mercedes interiors look like a Yugo's. The newer BMW's look horrible and I've heard as many negative complaints about quality as I have about the poor design.

Barges, barges, luxo-barges..

Wouldn't you rather have a real performance car with some real history and 'soul'? In the absence of being able to afford a gullwing MB, the 911 is a great buy. I've had one for 11 years. This is not a how-smart-am-I kind of point, but really, try one. Mine is currently being rebuilt (well, I'm scavenging parts) and will be > 400 HP, 0..60 in the low fours, it sounds great, it handles amazingly..ok I'll stop there and *** off to the porsche forum...

"Jaguar reliability" Theres two words you never see together. We think our MB's are expensive to maintain buy a V12 XJS with Lucas electronics.

Hatterasguy,

The new Jaguar XJ is a very nice car. It doesn't have pointless and stupid technologies like many MBs, BMWs, and other German cars that go wrong. It will eat an S430/500/745i for breakfast.

The 95-97 Jaguar XJ is a very, very reliable car.

westsidewagon I wasn't bashing Jags. I love Jags, they are one of my favorite cars, I will probably buy one in a few years. It will look good next to the MB. I have grown up with Jags, my grandparents have owned them since the mid 70's. V12,I6, V8 they have had them all. The worse was a 1994 XJ6, it was purchased in 1998 and I swear every part in that car broke twice in two years they owned it! It needed a valve job at 40k miles. The tie for the best is the 1998 XJ8 and an XJ12. The XJ8 is a great car but it is missing something, I prefer the XJ6. I don't know about an XJ eating an S500 for breakfast they are really both awsome cars. Great in there own ways.
