The dragon is a symbol of power and luck to the Chinese people...being born in the year of the dragon means you manifest many of these qualities...

DuckMuck: saying "Chinese New Year" is not fair . There are several other Asian countries (like Vietnam etc...) which also celebrate the Lunar New Year.

In Vietnam, the translation for "Lunar New Year" is "Tết Nguyên Đán" or simply "Tết". "Happy New Year" is "Chúc Mừng Năm Mới"
or "Cung Chúc Tân Xuân".

The Vietnamese equivalent of "Gong Xi Fa Cai" (Mandarin) is "Cung Hỷ Phát Hợi", which sounds more similar to the Cantonese version "Gung Hay Fat Choy".

In Vietnamese, "Year of the Monkey" = "Giáp Thân". I wonder whether the Cantonese or Mandarin translation would sound similar to it.

If you guys want to know how Vietnamese writing actually looks like, take a look at this website:

Here's a short history of Vietnamese language and its writing.
