i thought the cross and the star was worth a pic.

Yep, that's a doozie. I always wonder about the money that is spent on those types of things. must cost quite a bit to construct, maintain, and light them. would God want money from the collection plate going to that or to take care of people in need?

a counterexample:
www.maitreyaproject.org create a big tourist and pilgrim destination as a means to generate revenue and prosperity in a horribly depressed part of the third world.

I like seeing the crosses on the side of the highways. They simply act as a reminder to me that God is always present. I don't think you implied that they have any other motive, and I don't think they do either; I've yet to see one with a huge sign telling you who pays for it or asking for money.

That statue in India is a bit much...

It's going to be several times larger than the statue of liberty. I bet wal-mart gets in on the action and builds a strip-mall nearby...

Considering its location, these guys could conduct a PR campain by simply filling the thing up with food and makeing it into the world's hugest pinata!

Was that in bad taste?

A quote attributed to the late Lenny Bruce. In one of his routines he posed the following question:

"If Christ had been executed in the 20th century, would Catholic school kids wear little electric chairs around their necks, instead of crosses?"

I'd have to agree with DJUQRBA that th emoney spent in erecting and maintaining such monuments would probably be better spent in doing charity work.

Along those same lines, do we really need those super fancy, mega-million buildings that pass as churches? Last time I checked, Christ was born in a manger and his greatest sermon was delivered out in the open air, outside any temple....

Oh well....

The very reason you'll never see a cross on, or in, one of our churches, or around one of our members necks. But that's another discusion altogether

There's a cross off of I-35 near Edmond OK that dwarfs that one!

Never seen god, but after 23straight hours of driving into Canada and back there were a few hallucinations(what's that President Lincoln...)

There is a cross in St Cloud MN that is at least 100ft high. But its a block off campus and drunk people don't look up so I didn't notice it for months.
