Angry What the hell is Gov. Gary Locke thinking?

Here in Washington state, ********* Gov. Gary Locke is proposing raising the sales tax another 1¢ supposedly in the name of schools. In some parts of Washington like Seattle it will be near 10%. I do agree that education should be a priority but surely there are other ways to accomplish it. His proposition will surely aid Northern Oregon's ailing economy and further strangle the economies of those Southern Washington cities close to Oregon's border since Washingtonians living near the Oregon border will surely want to take advantage of Oregon's lack of sales tax even more. I'm glad that it is something we'll be able to vote on in November and that vote should be a resounding NO! When are those lazy govt. fat cats going to understand that they work for us?!?

The guy's a clueless SOB if you ask me. Washington already has THE most regressive tax structure in the nation, why the hell would that jackass want to make it even MORE regressive????

What we need is abolish that ridiculous burden on small business, the B&O tax, slash the state portions of the sales tax and property tax and institute a personal and corporate income tax--the latter two could then be written off our federal income tax sheets.

The personal and corporate income taxes could then be redistributed throughout the 39 counties to help fill in the educational budget gaps.

The WA state constitution also mandates that the Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) use revenues from state lands be used to pay for K-12 education. DNR leases state land, resources and mineral rights out to private corporations for a mere pittance of what they're worth. We should ensure that we (the taxpayers) are getting top dollar for every resource we lease, rather than sweetheart deals for the corporate buddies of political fatcats in Olympia. This should more than make up for the educational budget shortfalls our school districts experience annually.

Trust me, we've had an 'acting' governor for far too long. He opted not to run for another term cuz he knew he'd probably lose in the primaries.

(D) is for disappointment.

Just like those fat cat teachers. Wanting all that money for their work and not only getting little for income, they get even less for teaching tools. So rather than teaching, we insure they never do anything beyond day care.

Meanwhile, in India another 100,000 students who have received 16 years of first rate education step up to the plate and take yet more US jobs....Their plan is to take us on and win due our own short-sighted cheapness.

I live next to some DNR land and if it is any indication of how the state manages its land and uses it revenues to pay for education then I can understand why the education system in Washington is in such bad shape. It is neglected and abused.

Let me guess...some private contracter went in and clearcut or "thinned", and then never bothered to reseed or remove the snag piles? That seems to be the pattern all accross the state--sad. Burns me up.

Exactly. Sad but true. At least the one good thing is that I don't have any neighbors (no *********s either) along that property line.
I moved to this state from California thinking I would find a better group of people to get along with. WRONG. People around here are the same as they were as in CA, some even worse. Funny thing I found out about the area I live in now. It's jokingly called "Snob Hill" by some of the locals. Figures, there are plenty of *********s that live in our "community". They're exactly the same ones who have the democrat (correction:democrooks) candidate lawn signs during the election periods.

Consider the Libertarian party.
Their philosophy is less government BS.

Isn't that what about 60% of WA's population does anyway when it comes time to vote? Sorry, I'm not one of that 60%.

Initially, I thought the same thing Actually, I've have grown to appreciate Z.....especially for his sense of humor.

So, does Washington State not have any income tax?

Try our state:

6% State Income Tax
7% Sales Tax
High property taxes
High ad-valorem tax (vehicle tax - $800 last year on the CLK alone)
