I got my first ticket tonight on 485. 87 in a 65. Pulled by an unmarked white crown vic. Apparently somebody called and said we were street racing (I was following my friend in a GTI). I really need help. If anybody can give me suggestions as to what to do in court and what to expect, it would be greatly appreciated. I got a ticket for 87-65, and then a Wreckless driving for speed only. I was pulled over by a highyway patrol officer.. I can't tell you how depressed i am now. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I live in NC also...Mooresville. Anything over 20 (15?) mph over the speed limit is trouble. Usually the cop will reduce it under that at the scene, so you have troubles to start.

In NC if you have a clean record you can request a "Prayer for judgement" - yeah we're in the bible belt. This means you were guilty but it was a lapse of judgement. If they accept that and you stay clean for a time period (3 years?) - there is no ticket, no insurance impact, no points. Not sure that will apply in your case with reckless driving. If you get a ticket in that time period you get the new one and the old one.

BTW - there was a fatal accident on 485 last night, so that may be the reason the cop didn't have a sense of humor.

So my best recommendation is find a lawyer - local and familiar - with the traffic court you will go to. They will be familiar with the side negotiations that can happen. They will know the judges, DA, and maybe cops. Perhaps they can reduce the speed ( <10 is a much more minor offense). It will probably be around $300, maybe more for your case. You will save that in 1 year of insurance increase.

I have a very clean record. No tickets or accidents - ever. I was going 60 on a 2 lane highway in my '83 VW GTI in 1985. A trooper crested a hill and claimed I was going 74 in a 55 zone. NFW is the term that comes to mind... A good lawyer, a prayer for judgement, and no ticket, points or insurance hike. Also no ticket since either.

Hehe, I remember from somewhere that you're pretty young. Go to court if you want (I'm not sure if you'd have a good case or not) or just suck it up, pay if off, take traffic school, and slow down.

if i use my Prayer for judgement could i get out of the ticket if i take driving school? I am definately going to get a lawyer, but from what ive heard as long as it is your first ticket you will most likely be ok. Thanks. Also, one of my friends got pulled over for 64 in a 45, attempting to run from the police, and had alcohal in hsi system and he got off with his Prayer for judgement. Also another friend got a ticket for 61 in a 35, and with a lawyer got off of it with traffic school. Thanks again

I'm not too sure about getting off *completely*, but if you take traffic school, the point won't be on your driving record, assuming this is a first time thing

Think about the cost of paying the ticket vs. paying for the lawyer.

if i dont get the point on my liscense, will the insurance still go up? That is all i care about. I will do anything if the insurance doesnt go up

When I got my first speeding ticket at 16, I took traffic school and my insurance didn't increase, and I didn't get the point on my record either. Don't worry about it too much.

That's why, when you street race, or don't, keep a Police Scanner handy

Everytime I drive high speed, I keep the volume up and I listen to it.

Saved my ass yesterday, when I was making donuts and someone called the cops, I heard it on the radio, and we bailed. Eventually the cops found us, but we were parked at Denny's. lol

if this is your first ticket go to court. I made the mistake on my first few of not going. Now if I go they will pull up my recoed and go HAHA FINE, POINTS, AND COURT COST. Say you will pay the fines and you just don't want the points.
As for the racing charge good luck they are hard to get off of (at least in FL) They are cracking down big.
Good luck and try to slow down (I know I know pratice what You preech) just try thats all I can say

there isnt a racing charge. just a speeding ticket and a reckless driving for speed only since it is over 20 mph over the speed limit. It says nothing about racing or willfull speed competition on the ticket. By the way, it is Mandatory court because of the reckless driving on there. i have heard from a couple of people that this is a bull**** ticket because of the fact it is for speed only. You see if my old posts were still HERE They would be some help to you because I went through a similar thing. have you had your speedo check lately? if you happen to be of a little you may be able to get yourself below that 20mph mark

Ins. companies generally don't check points unless you have had a recent claim or are changing your policy.

Texas has that PFJ, but we call it a "No Contendre". And you have to stay clean for 90 days, or else the additional ticket (and points) get accumulated.

And I know you came here for help, but slow down! I understand youthful exuberance (I once was young), but it's not worth it.
