My Dream Garage..

O.K. Guys, here it is. I'm painting my garage soon. Its a one car. But it makes me think. If I had a huge garage and the money to fill it, (I graduate from law school in two months, so something has to keep my brain working), what would I fill it with? And I must confess, my automotive tastes run on the odd side. So I thought I'd share and see what you all had to say.

- Renault R-4 Turbo-Series II
- 1989 Porshe 944 Turbo S
- Peugot Mi-16
- MGB-GT V8
- MGB-GT
- MGC-GT (I want one of those "Sebring" C's. Wish me luck).
- Fiat X1/9 (I know, but my curiousity will never die until I have
one, to be driven only under cover of night).
- Seat Ibiza
- VW GTI Mk II
- Triumph GT-6 Mk I
- BMW M3 Mk I
- Audi GT Coupe
- Alfa Romeo Milano Verde
- Fiat 124 Sedan
- Lancia Delta Integrale
- Austin Martin DB-4, and the 6 cyl they made in the 70s.
- Maserati Biturbo (I know again, same deal).
- Maserati Bora, Khamsin, and/or Mexico and that other one with the "butressed" rear end, I can't think of the name.
- Peugot 504 Coupe
- My '84 MB 300D and '92 Exploder.

No Ferraris, only one Porsche. These are my dream cars here guys. Flame me or love me.

Why a seat Ibiza?

As you can see, I sold mine after 32 miles

G-Benz 03-09-2004 11:32 AM

I kinda like your eclectic collection!

Kinda sick of seeing celebs and the mega rich fill their garages with the same old token exotics!

You can tell that it's more like flexing their wallet than an actual love of the automobile...

Orkist,

What is your beef with Ferraris? You went into X19s and Alfas.. why not Ferraris?

Re: My Dream Garage..

Ditch the Triumph and you have a nice list.

My list, complied without the benefit of time to think about it is:

My 1985 300D or some other diesel Mercedes
1970 or 71 MGB roadster
MGTD
1967 MGB GT
1966 Cadillac Fleetwood
Subaru Impreza with upgraded suspension, tires, and brakes
Early '70s Alpha GTV
Some type of Jeep CJ from before about 1972
A few pick up trucks of various types

That's my list for now.

The MGB-C and V-8 are "dogs" . . . hot dogs, to be more accurate, so I would pass on those. I agree on the idea of any Pre-74 MGB (ugly federalized bumpers!) convertible as being representative of UK top down motoring. Have you given any thought to a Big Healy? Jensen Healy? As for the Fiat X1/9 . . . they have a nasty reputation for being a rolling fire trap, so how a 914-6 instead and how about a Pininfarina Fiat 124 sport coupe instead of the sedan?

WANT '71 280SEL 03-09-2004 08:19 PM

Mine would be....
-300SEL 6.3 (black w/ black caps)
-450SEL 6.9 (black w/ black caps)
-1969 600 State Landaulet w/ convertible top and 6 drs. (1 of only 6 made, pope had one), also black w/ black caps
-2004 S55 (black, no hubcaps on this one baby...), this would be my daily driver
-1954? Austin Healey MKIII (red w/ spoke wheels)

As you can tell I like black MB's, the wheel covers added a sense of existing class to them. make them look faster and newer in my opinion.

Thanks
David

P.S.
I LOVE Mercedes-Benz, can't you tell? I'd drive these all the time to keep them in prime condition btw.

What a Fiat X1/9, but no Triumph TR 7? :p

Don't forget the Opel GT Manta! Oh, and the Volvo P1800!

dmorrison 03-10-2004 01:58 AM

OK first

It's a 1 car garage how are you going to get all 20 cars in it??? Or is it a 1 door garage??

Second. The Fiat X1/9 I bought one brand new in 1977. Drove it for 113,000 miles until 1985. I really liked the car. Very fast in the turns, very slow on the straights. But really liked it. Black with red interiors. Actually my brother has on right now.

My dream list.

1971 280SL
1971 280 SE Cabriolet
1960 300D Cabriolet
My 88 560SL
My 82 300TD
1968 Ford Shelby GT500K convertible clone
Ferrari 308 QV or 308 GTS
Any year 500SSK
A 50's MGA or Jaguar

I bought an Opel for $50 in about 1985. I forget the model, it wasn't the GT, but it had the same mechanicals. That was a good running automobile. I'll bet a GT wouldn't be that bad. Not on my dream list, but not bad.

GRCBoca 03-10-2004 09:43 AM

The Opel GT always made me think of a Corvette that never grew up!

Gotta have someplace to put this stuff. Check out the link for the guy in Gainesville, Fl. with the 'garage warming'! Way cool

http://www.becksystems.com/Dream/BillCoffey

Also Guess what this other guy's dream cars are???:D

Orkrist 03-10-2004 01:24 PM

Yeah, I have a one car garage, but a guy can dream can't he? I also forgot the Alfa GTV and some other ones I can't think of right now. I like the more unusual cars, they seem like underdogs in a homogeneous automotive world.

No beef with Ferraris either, I would like to have like a 308 or something, or a Dino.

I love the early MGBs and particularly the GTs. I know even the V8 with the Rover motor is a relaxed cruiser more than a "sportscar", but I love them anyway.

There are also some Lancias that I like, too. The Volvo P1800 is OK, too. There's so many other unusual cars that are cool, too. Like the Jensen Interceptor.
