I wear a codpiece personally, large watches are just unnecessary.

Less than once in a blue moon...

I get something from peachparts that a thread still exists that I posted on eons ago...

This one I can appreciate. Here's what gets my wrist-time (for a backup diver and travel watch)

Mido Ocean Star Titanium auto 200m. I wanted just this watch for a LONG time and couldn't put money into something Swiss that had these features till Mido made it. Got this one used/serviced. Been superlative since. Loved my Seiko divers, but unlike them, this is hacking, hand wind, THIN, Swiss.

You have to buy a Japanese domestic market Seiko diver to get the hacking movement.

I have a Seiko SBCD001, and it gets more compliments than my Omega Seamaster.

I tried last I was in Singapore. No dice. There were only auto and not hacking. They must get int'l there, even though they make most of them in Singapore.

Perhaps if through Tokyo I'll try, still like the style and the Lumibrite...

I don't wear one and I have no problem getting things done on schedule. They're mostly an affectation in this day and age.

There are two websites in Japan that sell Japanese domestic market watches to buyers in the U.S.

They are both reputable:

seiyajapan.com | Grand Seiko

HIGUCHI-INC

The hacking movement in the SBCD001 is the 6R15 movement. It is used in a lot of their watches.

I'm coming close to pulling the trigger on this one, that the g/f -who is a semi-retired jeweler wants me to pick up.

She has access to the San Francisco Jewelry Mart, at the SF Gift Center, for over 20 years, (public NOT allowed) since they are all wholesale dealers, has gotten into me this (large wholesale jewelry mart with about 30 stores) as her "guest visitor" on her coat tails. Naturally the security is super super tight!

She thinks I ought to have this 18k gold Tissot Swiss watch, very very nice, (not too big or bling I think) but basic and quite understated.

Tissot Tissot Carson Men's Silver Quartz Gold Watch

It's been marked down to $1350 which is quite a savings, but she said she's familiar with this watch in this store, and it came in a long time ago when the price of gold was lots lower than it is today, which accounts to the lower price.

She still buys from this shop, and has been for decades, and they are a reputable full service jewelry wholesaler.

(They are Armenian-Americans, and I have learned that Beirut Lebanon is very much ground zero worldwide for Armenian jewelers, even when Armenia was a communist state of the old USSR.)

I am tempted but to me anything over $1,000 for a watch seems like a decent chuck of change.

I am on the fence on this watch, but may still jump on it soon.

Haven't decided yet.

I've been looking at vintage Omega Speedmasters, based on the recommendations of members on here.

Don't buy anything that you cannot shop and compare by price and authenticity. Were I faced with the business environ that you're describing, I would get very cautious with my money. This is when it pays to know your jeweler - when you do not know the market.

Seiko 5 Sport Automatic. Fantastic watch (love automatics in general). Under $100...

Seriously, with all of our devices sync'd using NTP, including our own servers, there's very little reason for a watch any more.
