Possible 300TE 4matic Purchase

Looking for advise and opinions on the purchase of a 1989,90,91,92... MB 300TE 4matic. I need a car for transporting stuff, winter travel and my SL & Jag. don't do the trick. I always liked the earlier MB wagons, but don't know a lot about them. What better site than this to get some advise, etc. I wouldn't be putting real high mileage on it, maybe 5K a year. Please advise. Thanks much.

If you want to know how crooked a stick is, just lay a straight one next to it.

It's not the tall sails that bring a ship to the port of destination, but the unseen wind.

Don't go near a W124 4matic. That system is a mess. If you must have all wheel drive, the later system on the W210 is much more simple and reliable.

I'm also sort of looking for a wagon. I asked my MB mech about that vintage and he said to avoid the 4matic like the plauge. Would like to hear any input on what to look for otherwise. Brakes, motor, susp ect.

Own two 4-Matic wagons. Have a mid 95 E320 4-Matic (w124) and a 2001 E320 4-Matic (w210). Both have worked alright thus far. Neither has super high mileage (about 90K on the '95), so I guess the problems haven't arrived. I'm not going to say that they are not problematic, just that I haven't had problems thus far. Along with a w123 TD wagon I also own (245K) that serves me well for hauling stuff (wife hates pickup trucks and won't let me buy one). I love my MB wagons! Wife wants a w211 E500 wagon, also in 4-Matic. I guess its in the works.
