Leaving LA, Where should I move to?

HI gang,
Thought I would ask my fellow MB drivers this question.
Where should I move to?
I have lived in Southern California for over 10 years and it is getting way too crowded.
I don't mind the people coming in but the traffic and the high cost of living is getting to me.
I like warm weather in general but I may consider colder climate if there are good benefiting factors.
I would like to stay in the US but will consider English speaking countries as well.

By the way, my job does not require me to be any place specific.

What do you guys think? I know many of you have traveled and have seen many nice places. Please give me some advice.

Thanks in advance.

Don't come to DC. We've got almost all the same problems!

Personally I've always wanted to move to Australia. Seems cool but I haven't done a lot of research yet.

Yes, I have thought of Australia as well, or even New Zealand.
Funny thing, I have a good friend in DC and he thinks I should move there.

There is a brand new house just up for sale across the road from us..

We left CA 3 years ago and it was the BEST decision we ever made. When I can drive 8 miles across town on hit only one stop sign and see maybe 10 cars total... that's what I'm talking about!! Plus public transit to Seattle is only 6 miles down the road (and you get to take your car with you!)

Please buy the house.. we need more MBZ owners around here!!

just moving away from that freak show is half the journey

Allthough I have not been there yet Aus and NZ top my list of places I have to visit. From what I hear they are both just super.

It also depends if you have any special affenities that you can't live without (ie. guns) May want to consider laws and taxes...Canada is pretty nice too and the folks are friendly, ey. Of course if you are just wanting to get away from the hustle and want to stay stateside then almost anywhere in the middle is pretty good. Try a map on a dart board just for kicks.

I really have limited Spanish skills, can I get by there speaking just english?
Maybe living near the tourist towns may be easier for a non-english speaking person.

Yes, I would like to travel to both Australia and NZ to see what its like there. I have heard that NZ is especially nice.

Well I do have some guns but I don't mind getting rid of them as long as no one else has any.
Canada is also a possibility especially Vancouver area.

Sure - you'll pick some up quickly. Large ex-patriot community. Weather's perfect - it's up in the mountains - reasonable prices, friendly people. Just aim your satellite dish and your in business. Can you order lunch in Wilmington?

House is in the last part of construction. Finish work and landscaping. Heck.. I can walk down the road and take some picturs of it.. 3 of those totally wooded areas are not cleared nad have houses but it's still an area full of trees. We love it here, excellent roads for bombing around on and it only snows for a couple of days every other year or so.

House is for sale by the owner/builder but I can shoot a snapshot of the forsale info if that is of much help (it should have plenty of contact info).

EDIT: If it matters firarms are not an issue around here. It's a *shall-issue* CCW state and just about everyone I know carries from time to time, never know anyone that had any need to use on tough! The type of crime we get around here that makes the papers is someone steeling a stereo or driving off without paying for gas.....

HOLESHOT:

Sounds great.
Please either post or e-mail me the photos.

By the way, it's amazing to hear that the level of crime is so low.
Well, compared to California that is. It can get crazy here depending on where you live. Also, if hell breaks loose here, you better hope your near your guns cause these criminals will travel to nice areas.

I'm spending a week in NZ this June. For grins, I did a little research on moving there and it's pretty clear that they don't want you hanging around more than about 3 months.

You'r best bet might be to seek out employment with a NZ firm and then offer to cover your own relocation expenses in return for an expat visa.

Sheesh!
It's all a lie! The Seattle area sucks! You'll hate it here! It just rains all the time.
I'm moving outta here because there's too many Californians moving here. Getting too crowded and expensive here. All you guys are bringing your California cost of living with you.
Move to the Spokane area. More sun. Less crowds.
