lance armstrong wins both the stage and trial in GA today (w/ pics)
well, the boys in red, white and blue dusted the ferigners today.
lance wins the stage race in the AM, and the trial later, taking the overall lead in the Tour De Georgia. biggest suprise of the day was the stage win. lance (2nd from left) outsprints the sprinters to the line. he had a good leadout from his team. then later blows their doors off in the individual time trial. only man under 40 minutes, nearly by 20 seconds. (approx 18 miles) here he makes the last turn leading into the final sprint line. overall, a GREAT day. good racing, perfect weather, and... plenty of those euro-trash biker groupy gals hanging out! |

I'm no Lance Armstrong . . . but I'd pedal fast if I were being tailed by a crazed postal worker in a Subaru!

Lance must be one of the top 10 all time greatest athletes. Cancer survivor and 5 time tour winner.

yep, i took about 100 pics there yesterday. the 2nd pic is a crop from the bigger frame. a guy next to me had a D-SLR with a longer lens, and he got some REALLY good pics.
about lance- M-ALI has always been one of my all time heros, and is commonly acknowledged as "the greatest", but if lance can take his 6th TdF this year, we may need to rethink that title. |

Even non-Yanks cheer for Lance. He's amazing! He is without a doubt one of the best conditioned people that have ever competed in any sport.
Great pics! Thanks.

Great photos! Lance's mental and physical toughness never cease to astound me.
I live in Lance's boyhood town, where he grew up and went to high school. Back when I was young and he was a kid, I had the pleasure (?) of competing in races with him. Yes, he thumped me, and just about everyone else, quite thoroughly. I was a mediocre bike racer and a worse triathlete. - JimY |

Those are great photos.
The first one (stage win) made me wonder if Bob Roll calls the event the "Terdy Georgia." Anyone who knows the reference might also agree with me that Roll's broadcast partner is Gum worth chewing...!

Whoa!!!
More pictures . . . more pictures! Those are great!
It is getting harder and harder to wait until July. Last nights "Road to the Tour" on OLN didn't give a very good report on Jan. He better get his act together soon if he is going to be a contender. - - - - - Where were you for today's stage? |

Howdy All,
When the tdf comes up do you think other riders will be gunning for him any more than they have in the past?¿

OK, a couple more.
the big news about thursdays races for me: this was the 1st time that lance had won a race on US soil in over 5 years. im awfully glad i got to see it and get the pics. 2 wins in 1 day !!! the mail truck hauls the mail, but the mail bikes haul ass! heres the USPS boys setting up the captain: next to last circuit downtown, lance is in 8th, george-H is in 3rd, ? in 2nd. concentration on the task at hand: off the last corner, ready to sprint for the line. on big steep 1 block hill at the left, he never came off the big chainring! it was a perfect blue-sky day in GA. i (and many others) took a nap under a big shade tree at the church between the races. |

Armstrong Wins Dodge Tour de Georgia Alpharetta, Ga. (April 25, 2004) – Five-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong (USA), of the U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling team, presented by Berry Floor, won the General Classification (G.C.) in the second annual Dodge Tour de Georgia today. Armstrong walked away with the title after spending four days defending the yellow Dodge Race Leader jersey. Gord Fraser (CAN) of HealthNet, presented by MAXXIS, captured today’s final stage (Stage 7), an 88.4-mile course that finished with a four laps on the streets of Alpharetta. Armstrong edged Jens Voigt (Germany) of Team CSC by 24 seconds for the G.C. title with a final time of 25 hours, 39 minutes and 20 seconds. While on his way to victory, Armstrong claimed two stage victories on an epic double stage day in Rome on April 22, the Stage 3 stage race from Carrollton to Rome and the Stage 4 Individual Time Trial. Finishing second overall, Voigt had a final time of 25.39’44”, 24 seconds behind Armstrong, and defending Dodge Tour de Georgia champion Chris Horner (USA) of Webcor Builders was third, 1’01” back in the G.C. “I was surprised how many people were there,” said Armstrong about the large crowds who showed up from Dawsonville to Alpharetta for the Grand Finale of the Dodge Tour de Georgia. “Actually I was surprised how many people came out the whole week. I didn’t really expect that, and I don’t think the other riders expected that. It was great for the race. I hope it’s an indication of what we can do in the future with cycling.” About the DODGE TOUR DE GEORGIA The Dodge Tour de Georgia is America’s premier, professional cycling event and rolling festival of community events that will cover 653 miles/ 1051 kilometers of scenic roads and byways across Georgia.
