smelly shoes

You know how if your shoe gets wet and not drid properly? or when u dont wear socks in them? i have cleaned them but it doesn't help with the smell. i usually jus throw em away. any tips to do? i used the shoe perfume and it just makes it worse.

I've found that if they are mediocre or below average quality shoes they need to be thrown out. Good quality shoes will usually have a removable insert that can be replaced, washed or aired out. Try putting them in an oven at about 150F for 20 minutes or so and see if the smell gets driven off at all. DONT FORGET THAT THE SHOES ARE IN THE OVEN! Leaving them in bright, direct sunlight will also work but takes much longer.

Activated charcoal in pouches . . . Baking Soda . . . as a last resort, some janitorial services have portable ozone generators that can do scent removal.

In the meantime . . .

Good point!

The shoes are merely messengers relaying a problem with the source...da feet!

Need to focus corrective action there, not the shoes...

rotate every three days

never wear your shoes two days in a row. Give them time to air out. Also, wear white socks whenever you can. rotating your shoes also helps them last longer!

Don't do it! Anything elastic on that shoe, including shoelaces will turn to crap if you put in the over for that long!

Years ago my dad was smart enough to put a piar of socks in the over to help it "dry faster".,.... needless to say it was pretty stiff with grill marks.

okay here is why i asked. well i play DDR (dance dance revolution) some might not know about it but i have been doing it for 3 years or so. so the shoes must be very comfortable. i found the best pairs to play them in are my Addidas superstar I's. i have 2 pair of these.

1st pair stink like **** because during my summer job we broke a crap pipe and i had o go down to dig/repair it. they were soaked in fecal water and after 2 washings they never smelled the same.

2nd pair stinks because i couldn't rotate with pair no.1, so sweat+every day use makes em stink.

it seems so unreasonalble to throw them away since they are still nice and all (thread are good and they are well broken in) i have washed them before, but it doesn't seem to help and comes back soon.

i will try the baking soda idea since when u have a smelly fridge u stuff one in there and it will work right? thanks a bunch guys, spread the knowledge around!!!
