Favorite Sneaker Brand/Athletic shoe?
I haven't posted much ever since I've gotten my Subaru, but I still enjoy the lively discussion on the open forum here, and the diversity of topics. I still cannot find a Subaru forum like mercedesshop.com. Nonetheless, what's your favorite brand of Athletic shoe/sneaker? Recently I have started to diversify my footwear from solely Birkenstocks, to sneakers as well.
So far my two favorite brands, style and quality wise, seem to be Adidas and Puma, especially the older styled shoes. All old style Adidas come in a blue box, while Pumas come in a black/normal cardboard colored box. For Adidas, I love Adidas Samba, Rekord, Spezial, and one other unnamed retro style. For Puma, I like Miele, Sprint, and one other unnamed style. So whats your favorite brand of sneakers? Coincindentally, Adidas and Puma are both German owned companies, founded by men from the same family. Adolf Dassler founded Adidas in the 1930's and his brother Rudolf Dassler, who got pissed at his brother, founded Puma. The headquarters of both companies lie in the small German town of 23,000, Herzogenaurach |

Okay, you've struck a chord with this one...
As one who will admit he has an addiction to buying trainers/sneakers (if you could just see in my closet) I'd have to say that Adidas rocks, though New Balance is great too. Puma is good, and I must say, I don't own a single pair of Nike. -JAS

Adidas Sambas rock! Every athletic shoe I own has three stripes on the side. I like the torsion system running shoes and soccer boots. That's all I do really, play soccer and run.

I have been through many pairs of running shoes (about one every three-four months) and I like New Balance the best. Their lasts just seem to fit me the best, and their interiors wear the best. I tried a set of Aisics (sp?) and the inside crumbled within a few weeks, creating sandpaper in the heel support.
Also, the New Balance have roomy toe-boxes, which I really need since I have Morton's Neuroma. Right now I am PO'ed TO THE MAX. I had some surgery on the 1st and was banned from the weights for 3 weeks. So, with an extra hour suddenly available in my work-out, I extended my running time by an hour. Currently, I was running 15 miles three times a week, maintaining an 8:00 pace so that I clipped 15 miles in two hours exactly. The other three days was inclined running for 60-90 minutes. Heck, what would an extra hour do? It would give me minor tendonitis in my left achilles, that's what. CRAP! CRAP! Now I am relegated to the stupid eliptical trainer until those tendons heal. Even 10 minutes of running hurts now. Some days I am just a MORON! But I guess I'll save money on shoes...

Yep, New Balance for me too!
Puma's? Nah, I can remember in the 70's when they were the BOBO brand. I just can't get that out of my head. I once had a pair and they fell apart in a few weeks. |

15 miles a day John? Just thinking of that gives me tendinitis. I consider 15 miles a week a good week for me.

Adidas Sambas do rock. Great style and proportion. I don't wear running shoes/athletic shoes unless I'm running or being athletic because I'm a snot.
When I do wear them, I like the Sambe and some of the more conservative Nike stuff. Very clean and attractive, no BS graphics or plastic. Pume is cool, too. But, if you're like serious runner, I have no idea what to wear. I try to avoid running as much as possible by driving MBs. |

Anything by Nike is good, but alot is ugly, I like the tamer styles. The Cole Haan / Nike colaborations are hot too.

Definately New Balance for me, as I wear a B width shoe and have flat feet!!
But my current pair is Nike, just because I needed a new pair right away and couldn't wait for a pair of New Balance to be ordered. I couldn't believe how stupid looking most of the Nike shoes are!! You have to look hard to see where the space-suit boot stops and the shoe begins!

However, I have been icing it and doing some special stretches and exercises, and it's working. Today I did about 6 miles and I'm not sore tonight, which is a good sign. I have been challenged to run the Skyline Trail in Jasper this summer. It's 55km's (34 miles) and has 1400M of elevation rise (4700') and two hard passes. Also, most of the trail is at the 8000' or above mark, which means less O2. 8K-ft sounds "low" but you'd be surprised at what a difference it makes. Much of the terrain is rocky and some parts are difficult. Many people do it as a 2-3 day backpack, so running it in a morning should be a challenge. Also this summer (good reasons to stay in shape!) I am embarking on a three week "epic" backpack that begins in Banff and traverses through the Siffleur Wilderness, White-Goat Wilderness and then north through Jasper to the townsite. It's about 300km's or so and over 200 is on very difficult terrain with no trails, steep climbs, and some very tricky river fords. All but about 80kms in in very isolated areas and so self-sufficency is a requirement. Good physical condition is a must. I refuse to let myself go again. When Helen was pregnant and I had swtiched to a mostly-at-my-desk job, I went to hell-in-a-handcart. I gained 40 lbs and wheezed going up a flight of stairs. My outdoor activities suffered (none being done!) and I felt like crap. Today my blood pressure is 110/65 and my resting heart rate is 50. I've trimmed myself down to 7% body fat and can run and climb all day. No Atkins diet or other faddish crap. Just proper nutrition and exercise. I figure if I can do it, pretty much anyone can...

For running shoes, I wear nothing but New Balance for the same reasons posted above: they have naturally wide toe boxes, and come in extra wide widths. I wear a 9 1/2 EEEE, and no other shoe seems to be offered in my size.
