I'm picturing the next scene in which said tinkerer brushes his forearm against the still-hot exhaust and recoils in pain, flinging his arm outward and simultaneously dislodging the main jackstand...
...and his head forcefully injected into the cockpit through the passenger floorboard (ala Dino in the "Flinstones" drive-in scene trailer credits)
