12C is the classic RPN hand held calculator for finance and business. Knowing how to use it is a must for real estate people.

I believe the Platinum allows for algebraic and Reverse Polish Notation data entry.

is that the main difference? just the ability to do rpn and algebra versus just rpn?

Here's a difference: http://www.educalc.net/150125.page

IMO everyone should learn RPN. I have a counting method for determining a WFF in RPN. Start with 1 for the first variable. +1 for each variable, count remains the same for negative, and count -1 for each operator. You should end up with a 1 at the end of the string.

Doesn't the 12c has some great scientific and statistical Roms that you can plug in? I used one branded either 12c or 11c many, many years ago that was a sweet little computer in the palm. "In the days of my youth..." (getting the Led out, here) you could attach a thermal printer, too.

RPN is great until you have kids. Grade schools think you gotta have an "=" to be useful and the kids gotta have what their friends have. Except you'll never here this, "My friends have no money, can I have no money, too?"

Sorry for the temporary hijacking.

Nope, the only thing you could "add" to the self contained 12C is batteries.

I doubt anyone would need more than the 12C for a summer class. I made it all the way through grad school with a 15C (engineering cousin to the 12C) and barely scratched the surface of it's capabilities. RPN is tremendous once you get the hang of it.

Good luck in summer school!

12c's are for classes only, my cellphone is a more versitile financial calculator but I always use my 19BII because I know the measurement and financial functions by heart and can be very SASSY with the fast calculations.

Yes it's so, but I refuse to wear a tie. I was made an offer I could not refuse.

And no I'm not a stinkin realtor either.
