cordless phone question

why wouldn't two identical cordless phones interfere with each other if they were close enough? i assume they use different radio frequencies but what's the possibility of getting one that can eavesdrop on another unit closeby?

if i can 'hear' another conversation on my phone. can i assume he can listen in on my calls?

just wondering

Cordless phones are just little radio transceivers. They operate on a series of fixed channels. Many of them will automatically change channels if they sense other signals, so interference or possibility of evesdropping between phones is not usually a big problem.

Scanners are another matter. Scanners can easily pick up cordless phone signals if you know where to look.

While we're on the subject . . . does anyone have experience with interference of a 2.4Ghz cordless phone system with a 802.11b or g wireless ethernet system? Is the 802.11a the only protocol that doesn't use the 2.4Ghz band?

Jen,
Be aware that the Supreme Court ruled that you have NO expectation to the right of privacy on a cordless phone or cell phone. Keep your conversations about drug dealing and plots to overthrow the government to corded phones only

When I lived in Miami, my daughter was a newborn and let me tell you. I used to pick up the most interesting telephone conversations from a "lose moraled woman" living in my building on the Baby Monitoring Unit!

Used to keep my entertained quite a bit and not to mention, ready to go to bed with the wife.
