Who invented the diesel engine

Just tossing this out.
Who invented the 4 stroke engine?
If it was now for this man and his invention we may not be able drive aroung in our wonderful MB's and feel so good and proud about ourselves and our cars.
This man was Nikolaus August Otto
a German inventor who,in 1876 built the first four stroke internal combustion engine. The prototype of the hundreds of millions that have been built since.
The internal combustion engine is a versatile device. It was used to power aircraft, but it most important use of the internal combustion engine is to power automobbiles.

Ummmmm, went to the library?

I'd also like to point out that Gottlieb Daimler is the person really associated with making the gasoline engine practical to use in carriages/vehicles. Before him the RPM's were way too slow, he developed ways to make the gas engine run at much faster speeds. But Otto was really the inventor of the internal combustion engine as we think of it today. For a long time the gas engine was referred to as the Otto engine or Otto cycle engine.

And he is credited with this quote when the OVP in his associate's Daimler carriage went out:

"You OTTO take it to the dealer"...
