No. I made no comment either way about the protocol. I just don't see a double standard. In fact, after all the abuse heaped on Clinton and Gore from all sides, I am mystified as to how anyone can say that Republicans are the ones who don't get a fair shake.

My recollection is that politicians in both parties have often done what Kerry is doing and what Bush did - they spend all their time running for office but don't resign their current positions. Seems wrong to me.

When it comes to bitterness and negativity, its always great to hear from an expert. The post was actually made in a humorous vein.

I don't think it's ever been the norm. Dole resigned, iirc, for political reasons, i.e. to show he was committed. Most multi-year politicians (governors, senators) time their runs so that they can keep their jobs if they lose (Bush, Lieberman, Gore, Dukakis).

Kirk,
I enjoyed reading your backward chronology. I was amazed at how much *****ing and moaning has gone on in this country since the beginning. For some reason nostalgia (sp?) seems to take the hard edges off of memories. I've lived through Watergate, Iran-Contra, the S & L Failures, and all of Clinton's women and only the Clinton hearings seem to reasonate with the kind of vitriol that is rampant today.
But these may be the good old days too.

Any time you like. I also have maps to Chappaquidic - if your ever in Mass, let me know, I'll let you borrow it too so you can stroll down memory lane.

Of the limited days I have left in life, I cannot imagine wanting to expend one on that pilgrimage. Besides, I can't even spell Masahgdjetts, how could I possibly find, Chappaquidic?

It's always a good idea to avoid the crowds. Cappaquidic can be so darn pushy, especially when Hannity and Savage are in town.

From what I hear, Cappidocea is pretty, didn't know the savage Hatfields and Daschels went at it in those parts.

Ok so there really is'nt a president or protocol on this issue.
So I'm safe to vote for the Kerry/teddy ticket.
I would'nt want to vote for the wrong guy.

Thank you. It was meant to be funny. If I had wanted to be nasty, I would have mentioned the Republlican running for the Senate in Illinois who just got exposed as a guy who tried to force his soon-to-be-ex-wife into joing his group sex clubs (talk about swing voters). I mean, if I wanted to get really nasty, I'd have mentioned the Republican congressmen who just got out of jail for negligent homicide for criminally running over one his own voters, or I could have mentioned the new ex-Governor of Conneticutt who is about to be indicted on bribery charges, or I might even mention Bob Barr, the pro-life congressman who got caught arranging an abortion for his knocked-up teenage daughter, or I could mention how Gingrich was having an adulterous affair with his (now wife) secretary the whole time he was going after Clinton. If I wanted to get really nasty, I'd bring up the big-time Christain right congressional leader Henry Hyde, who lived part of the time with his girlfriend and illegitimate kids, and part of the time with his wife and kids, and of course, who could forget our Speaker of the House-For-a-Day Bob Livingstone, whose ex-girlfreind sent pictures of him in his birthday suit to Larry Flint. I could have said that. But that would be wrong. And mean-spirited. I'm just not like that.

Hey, Newt had to cheat on his wife, the chemotherapy she was undergoing at the time didn't leave her in the mood for sex.

No, that was Newt's first wife. As she was lying in a hospital bed recovering from cancer surgery, he had her served with divorce papers so he could marry the women he was cheating with, who became wife #2. Wife #2 was the one he was cheating on when he was demanding an FBI investigation of Clinton's penis while Newt's secretary/future wife was under HIS desk. I would have mentioned that as well, but that would be wrong.

Did someone say depravity?

Your welcome. I was tempted to mention the Republlican big-time Christian right congressman from Maryland who was caught having sex with a male page in a Capitol mens room, but they didn't mention Barney Frank, so I left it out. Leaving it out contributed to the high standards you see so apparent in my post. I also couldn't remember his name.
