Thanks folks

I'm surprised the interior is causing a few comments - I was thinking about trying to find a black leather one - may be I'll stick with what I've got for now...

As for the windows...

(Seriously Martin I had a look for a W140 but they were all high mileage and needed a lot of work - rusty - very rusty)

The car does however have an electric sunroof and electric door mirrors - but manual windows - go figure

I see no sense hoping it will be OK - I have to be brave and see if it is OK. This will be the test to see if I got a good one or not. Tomorrow I'm going and get some rust proofing stuff and this weekend I'll start off removing all of those plastic panels that could be hiding my worst nightmare...

Yea, no rust for me too, but here in the USA all the W140's I run into are rust free. They are available all day long for $3,000 USD with 240km to 280km. It is a sad price for a car that sold for around $100,000 USD in the mid ninety's.

I do very well with all the electrical demons these cars have. Electrical issues are easy on these cars.

Anyway, enjoy your new ride.

Martin

It Maybe Sacri-Religious (?Sp).......

.........but going back to the cloth seats........what I wouldn't give for a nice cloth covered seat on some of the hot, humid days that we have in the Midwest, rather than sliding into a hot, sweat inducing leather seat that Mercedes no doubt will be forever wedded to.

My '74 280C had the Euro seats. I have no idea why they would consider a black and yellow checked cloth as even remotely "stylish".

Thanks Patrick - I hope it won't become an addiction - I need to keep this one whole and actually drive it

My 190E is the equivalent of your 300D - it took more work to make it become a good reliable daily driver. Been driving my 190E daily since May last year with NO problems after we found out the cause of it's poor performance. So from there it was improvements after another (except for being side swiped).

Should I see you more often in the W201 section of BW too?

I should really pop over and introduce myself. I did visit as lurker the other day...

...I must stop lurking and join in. But then again I really need to get on with sorting this car out too!

+1 Maybe it's a case of the grass always being greener on the other side of the pond, but I'm always jealous of the Euro features we don't get over here.

As am I. Cloth = nice, big black checkered squares = not my cup of tea.
