Tube were completed yesterday and fit real well. The on e with the 180° is a bit kinked so I may have that one made elsewhere. I did find a guy that can bend that one over a 3/4" CLR die. So I will probably ship him my 3D printed model. Manifold pictures are shown with a aluminum mock up manifold. Steel to come soon.

Completed the ports and some profiling today on the CNC mill in steel. I'm getting spoiled by that mill. Tomorrow is the last day I get to use the CNC mill as the Forge is shutting down for Corona-19. I still need to round the corners.

I had to fabricate a tool so the tubes would be held in place when they sweet them. Just got them back today silver soldered in place. I welded in 1 support and now it is ready with exception of plating or powder cote, whatever I end up doing. My compressor should be in tomorrow or possibly today. The last line I had re-bent will ship back to me in the morning and should be here Saturday. Tomorrow I should have pressure test fittings completed. With all that complete this job is now a bolt together task. Hopefully it will go together like Lego. Still not sure if the subframe needs to be removed or can I get away with just removing the radiator.

Thumbs up Almost Time......

For Summer, heat and glorious AC ! .

I often find that if you have the time you can jigger things around like an old timey Chinese puzzle....

A slight pause in the AC project for the moment. I currently have the manifold out being plated this week. While its out I decided to try to lift the engine a little to see if I could install the compressor without dropping the subframe. So with the old compressor and mock up manifold I made I tried to fit the compressor in place. I was able to get it in place, however the bolts were so shrouded with other structure there was no way I could get them started. I believe I got one started but stopped as I thought I was cross threading the compressor support. So I removed the compressor and decided to drop the subframe. Ordinarily the subframe would just need to be dropped as an assembly 4" or so but I had a future need for completely removing it so I decided to bit the bullet and get everything I need from it while its out.

If you recall from the very first post there is a picture of a subframe on a milling machine. That setup was used with a 3D probe to effectively make the milling machine into a CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine). At the time I measured 3 subframes with that system and took the average of all three to effectively reverse engineer the sub frame. Those measurements were made on stock 560SL subframes. I still need the coordinate measurement of a subframe that will work with the M120 engine. This was the opportunity to get those measurements. Aside from those measurements I need to know if the subframe modified for the M120 might work with an M113 as well.

So when I am done with the CMM measurements I can also use the subframe to install into my parts car and see if an M113 engine fits into the car

So I am taking the opertunity to measure the subframe for reproduction purposes and to evaluate the feasibility of it working with the K113. This should only take about a week so hang on.

First and second pics show the measurement tool in and out of the create.

Third pic shows the engine support bar used to support the engine with the subframe removed

Fourth pick show's the subframe modified for the M120 engine, now removed.

Fifth pic shows Samson with subframe removed.

Tomorrow will be a day of cleaning parts.

Cracks is something I will be looking for. First time I have had the subframe out in 12 years. Good time for inspection.

All measurements are complete. Now just waiting for an air pump to come in from CA and my manifold to be returned from plating.
