I'm assuming you've found it by now, but if not it is on the right side of the footwell- just look (or feel) for the small plastic door that flips down.

Just FYI- I'm not sure if you are doubting the retail price, but I had the original sticker from my 1983 300D Turbo that showed a price of over $33k (with leather and rear headrests).

Which should I believe, the fuel filler flap or the door jamb? I have a 1999 C43 with the 7.5/8.5 Mono II and Mich Pilot Sports(225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear) - the filler flap shows 28/32...
