Boot removal

MB tool #110 589 01 01 00 (Hazet #2771) is a 17mm double open-ended wrench that is placed UNDER the boot and then levered to lift the boot up from the spark plug.

SunGuy has the correct advice on the 3M Super Trim Adhesive. The 3M part number is #08090. Don't use 3M General Trim Adhesive #08088.

Hood release

On my 1999 SL500 there is a pull tab handle located in the grill "star". It may be necessary to lift the hood slighty when you pull on the handle. Your 1997 may be similar.
