W124 cars

your '88 260 E and the '93 300E share the same chasis W124, so you won't have any problems with the wheels and tires you found no matter the size

if you car does not need any bodywork and the paint job would be in the same color just sand it (sand paper 1500 will be fine) and repaint the car.

I have done it in several of my MBz's

in the upper part of the back tires it almost have 1/2" of clearance but...

just fit 265-35/18 on rear and 235-40/18 on my 72 350 SL and they fit, I use a 3/4" spacer on the rear tires, the wheels where from a E420.
