There's a bit of movement as the bearing is encased in rubber but it isn't much. There's no looseness and the fasteners are tight. I see what you mean though --- in the picture they sure look loose.

I have a 1985 300D with 330K. The car is relatively smooth even at highway speeds but there's a pretty noticeable vibration at 18mph. IThe vibration is gone past 20mph. Acceleration makes it worse....
