Make sure that your rotor adapter which is behind the rotor did not break. Have a 1992 190e that was acting similar like to never found the problem. Had spark, gas, and compresson but would not start.

Look at the distribitor,rotor,and rotor adaptor.

I recently had my 1992 2.6 190e give me similar problem. The rotor adaptor which sets behind the rotor broke. The car was doing similar things as you suggest. The car then would not start at all.

Found problem. Rotor adapter plate broke inside of upper timing chain cover. You could not tell anything was wronge with the adapter place with cover on the car. The rotor was still attached and...

I have tried putting starting fluid into the air filter, it did not start. The car has spark, compresson, and starting fluid and still does not start.
