Having owned both (83 300SD / 90 560SEL) all I can say is.....

IT'S WORTH IT!!!!!!

Loved both for different reasons.

I like to think of the W126 as the nicest W123 I ever drove.

Drive a W211 (or newer), and you will no longer think the W126 is the finest....:)
