front ashtray won't close

ok, it is a c class 1997 merc.

the front ashtray cover will not shut- any ideas what is wrong with it and how do i fix it.

as it was some time ago that i fixed it,i can't remember precisely what i did, but the haynes manual may give you further guidance on removing the switch.:cool:

i am planning to change the waterpump on a c200 2litre uk spec car .(should be similar to the c230 us spec car)

do i need any gaskets when i change the pump?

or does it have an 0 ring?

you could look at a picture of the oil filter...

you could look at a picture of the oil filter wrench on the fastlane link at the top of the page or the diy link at the top as well-then look in oilfilter change part 2.:)

the noisy fuel pump could be due to a blocked fuel filter.

if you have replaced it ,then the next step would be a new fuel pump-i fitted a bosch one from the dealer and all the hissing/buzzing...

my car has a belt tension shock absorber and when i press it firmly while the car is idling,the dieseling sound disappears.

will a new shock absorber cure this?

if a shock is not leaking,and passes the bounce test,then it is possible for it to still be faulty,-i had this scenario on a previous audi,the car would have a knocking sound from the front end...

sometimes the fuse may appear ok,but corrosion or poor contact may result in the problem you are describing-have you actually swapped the fuses of similar amps to exclude this possibility.? :D

i had the fuel pump replaced today with a new bosch one from

the dealer but fitted by a friendly tech.

no more pump noise -
