BIODIESEL vs "ULSD" one better than the other?

just wondering if ulsd is any better than biodiesel or the other way around,it seems like bio would be better cause its less dependent on other countrys, but bio is not going to be offered at major stations. Also will ulsd have A higher cetene rating or remain the same? WHAT DO YALL THINK

ULSD= Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel. I'm guessing it is just a more refined petroleum product. I don't believe the cetane is any higher than present diesel. Just better emmsions.

IS it better? Matters how you define "better"

Will ULSD show better emmsions than 100% Bio-D (B-100) I dont think so. If I understand this all right there are NO sulfers in Bio-D

Will ULSD be more available than Bio-D. odds are yes

Will ULSD be better for your engine than Bio-D. Quality Bio-D is better IMHO.

Which one will be the most expensive. If you brew Bio-D ur-self then it is cheapest. Othewise it's probably the most expensive of the two.

There are essentially no sulfur compounds in B100.
Trouble with he ULSD is that the sulfur, which is the sole lubricator in diesel fuel, will be removed thereby leaving nothing for lubricity. I sure wouldn`t want my engines and fuel pumps running fuel without lubrication. There is a move afoot to have biodiesel added to ULSD in a B2 blend to deal with this certainly problematic situation.

We`ve been using biodiesel in a B100 to a B75 blend now for over three years and will not go back to petroleum except for the annual 50 gallons or so of K1 we use for our winter B80 blend.

This is from BP.

BP Diesel ecology is a cleaner solution with 90% less sulphur emissions than regular diesel

Engine performance
With BP Diesel ecology, you will not have to compromise between engine performance and environmental protection. BP Diesel ecology will not reduce engine power and it even offers a cetane index of 51 versus 49 with most other diesel fuels.

Engine protection
BP Diesel ecology is specially formulated to enhance engine lubrification and protection.

The latest generation of anti-corrosion additives in BP Diesel ecology help clean your engine and extend the life of your vehicle.

All diesel vehicles can benefit from BP Diesel ecology without any specific tuning. BP Diesel ecology can also be mixed with all other old formulated diesels.

Agreed, but our IPs (unlike some of the big rig diesels) are lubed by engine oil, and therefore aren't really troubled by a lack of sulfur. Still, I concede the point that biodiesel is the superior product in many ways.

Sulfur is not a lubricant. The process for removing sulfur has the side effect of reducing fuel lubricity.

That 49 number sounds mighty optimistic to me. Any time I've seen cetane posted at a pump, it's been around 42. Just what is the Diesel ecology? A biodiesel blend?
