W123 underhood insulator pad

Did any 123's have underhood insulators? I looked under the hood of the 240D I just bought, there doesn't appear to be any sign of a pad...wondering if any had one, and if so, if it would cut some of the diesel clatter?

If you're talking about an underhood pad, yes, the 123's all had one. The 240D had a foam rubber type pad to both cut the noise and protect the hood from engine heat.

Do a search - lots of info on replacing the pad.

there's no sign of any old glue residue or anything else, just dirt and gunk.

Then I would guess that the hood is a replacement or that it was very well cleaned prior to a repaint.

my 230TE euro 123.283 definately did not have one since new, if you look it up in the mercedes epc it doesn't list it as applying to my car, i bought one for a diesel model and installed it, send me your vin number, i will see if it shows it applying to your 240

My "85" Euro 240D never had a hood pad. I installed one, it did help with the noise just a wee bit.

My Euro 240 did not have a hood pad. Going down the road at highway speed, it sounds like a sewing machine. A very loud one running at redline with wind noise.

mine's a US model, and going from a 420SEL to this noisy little beast is quite a shock. I still haven't made any sense out of the HVAC controls...read the book and everything.
