General recall
Does anybody have any information about a general recall - TSB CMP96_1121 issued on Feb 97? I have an '85 300D CA car, I've own it for about 18 yrs and have around 250K miles on it. I know I brought my car to the dealer to have the first recall done which was to replace the trap oxidizer. What is the difference between the first recall and the one issued in '97? Recently, I noticed a whinning sound, thought my turbo was going bad. That sound now sounds like a busted exhaust pipe. It looks like its coming from the place where the intake, exhaust and the catalyst meet. I see traces of soot at the side-rear of the valve cover. Has anyone encountered this kind of a problem?

That's the only trap oxidizer recall for an 87 300SDL. Maybe they cut and paste from the early recall to create the later recall.

Just call 1-800-FOR-MERC(EDES) and ask them. Have your VIN number and they can tell you if your car has had it done.
