1992 500E $11,500 - 142,000 miles

Well, the time has come to get serious about liquidating some automotive assets. The cruise missile is one of a couple that will be departing as a build a warchest to purchase some additional property while the market is in decline.

It's priced below blue. Reasonable offers will always be considered..

Thankfully I don't have to make a detailed rundown of the car here, I think everyone is familiar with them. So here is the summary:

142,000 miles
Trans recently refreshed by Automiester II in Issaquah WA
Timing chains checked out fine by shop during last service
Charcoal black exterior, black interior leather
Basic CD player / radio
New speakers all around

Vehicle has seen little use in the last 6 months, primarily parked in my garage (except when working on one of the PCars - which is thanfully infrequent).

What happened to that 1979 930 to 964 body conversion?

The seller had it on eBay about a year ago, was in your shop for some final tuning, then I think he pulled the listing.

Looked like an interesting car.

He's still got it (cold feet)........we'll see what he decides to do with it this year....

I tell you what.. if it turns out I don't need the cash to close on the house... I might say let's trade.. the motor in my 993 does not seem to be as tight or stong as the one in my 964.. maybe it could use a freshening up... thought about swapping the 993/964 engines and selling the '64 and then doing some really nutty body and engine work on it..

But.. having the extra cash at closing will make me feel a bit better...

Still for sale.. bought the house.. and now the car is just collecting dust in my garage.

Dropping price.. $10,500 The only thing that has changed is that some jerk stole the gunsight off the car while I was at a ball-game in Seattle. Farking city sucks.

You know Mark Besso , right? He mentioned you and your 500E several times. He has come back to CT and I bought his Mk1 Scirocco from the Mt Washington Hill Climb...anyway....

You'll be sorry if you sell that 500E !!

Its worth a bit more tho than what you want IMO.

WOW! Small world. Yes, I know Mark very well. I'm so bummed he moved to CT (for purley selfish reasons) he's a blast to hang out with and a font of endless automotive information! Ah. yes! The Scirrocco. I wish he's brought it out here for some auto-x thrashing. He was a great instructor and helped me win 2nd place in the Novice championship for 2005 (in a Miata).

Thing is, I have two Porsches and the MBZ is just collecting dust... believe me I'd put it up for sale and taken it off three times now. I spent 3 years searching for one. I'm probably insane but.... the kids prefer to ride in the tail-draggers. If the 500E had a manual transmission then I'm sure the situation would be MUCH different.

It is a bargain for the price. I would be all over that one if I was in the market. So often the best ones show up on places like right here.

There was a guy who had one, and debadged it BUT put one of those custom license plate frames on it that say P O R S C H E

Some people who saw it would shake their heads and ask if it was SHOME MISHTAKE SHURELY?

Those in the know would smile bemusedly at the driver, on to the joke that he was being too clever by half.

Either way, I am sure he was amused every time.

These are maybe the most covetable newer cars ever made by Mercedes Benz.

Knowing what I know now, I probably would have bought one of these, 11 years ago instead of the coupe

$10,500 is a fantastic deal. If I was in the market, I'd be all over this too. You should be able to sell it easily. Good luck.

He lives maybe 15 miles from me now...see him almost every weekend too. Hellava good guy and a dear friend. He's sold his blue wagon and got an Audi Coupe now and planning to pop in a small 3.6L V8. You might see his UK plate in this group of pix too taken last weekend (#20 with the RS2 front end). Do you know that crazy chick Kristen with the Scirocco tattoo as well? Oh, the stories he's got on her

You should know being a Porsche guy that the 928 manual tranny will work on a 500E...they share the automatic ones ! I do agree tho...having a manual 500E would be a definite keeper...if you needed to choose.

This is actually not true....confirmed it myself. The auto trans from a 928 is indeed the 722.4 MB trans, but the manual 928 uses a bespoke transaxle arrangement, thus making it more or less useless (might as well adapt a Getrag or ZF 6-spd box like others have done for the cost).
