Do I need to find an oil cooler?
Is my oil cooler done? There are threads left, but are there enough?

I'd try and find a used one.
Remember to slather the threads in anti-seize. |

Thanks Lance. I'm off to post in the parts forum.
If you know of an available one, let me know.

I don't remember anymore.
It's been on jackstands since January. I'm finally able to spend some time on it again. Unfortunately, I just added to my list.

I second the screwed nipple suggestion. I have one on my lower oil cooler fitting, and it's working great. $5 at the dealer. I bought 4 and have some left.

Did you also need to drill and tap before the nipple was installed?

Sorry, lost my pictures. I did take the cooler to a machine shop to drill and tap. They charged me $30. Total investment was about $35.

I read thread concerning the installation of the repair nipples and you needed "The thread tap size is 18mm by 1.5mm. The drill size for the pilot hole is 21/32 inches, I don't know the metric equivalent." And, the member went on to say it took more time to clean out the metal chips from inside the cooler than it did to replace the nipples.
If you put thick Hi-temp grease in the flutes (grooves) of the drill and tap most of the metal chips will get trapped in the grease and make the cleanup easier. Also good news is that all the oil comming back from the oil cooler has to go through the oil filter.

Cool idea, thanks Charlie. I looked for the bit and tap and the best price I could find was about $30. I'll have to call around and see what a local shop will charge to handle it.

Are 2 heads better than one?
After reading the description of the repair "Nipples" they sound a lot like the double "Nipples" that are down there at the bottom of the oil filter housing that the cooler hoses attatch to. If I ever get back to the Pick-A-Part type yard I will take one off and see if the thread size matches the description. Or dose some one have an extra housing hanging around they could pull one off of and see if the thread size is the same.

Replace it
I lost an engine to a blown oil cooler line. It isn't worth skimping on.
