Injector nozzle assembly :(

:I'm confused:I pulled my injectors out to clean them and reinstalled them . Car will barely start ,black smoke ruff etc..
I pulled them out again and I'm not sure I assembled them back correctly
There is a little cap the goes into the spring the sits on top of the injector ,it has a short side and long side , I'm not sure which side goes up into the spring and which side gors down onto the Injector pin.

A Picture would help.

Dude, post the car you are working on. That would really help us to help you.

Take apart one inj at a time.

I have ultrasonically cleaned 6 at one time but only ONE is disassembled.

That takes off 95% of carbon.

I did score a New BOSCH diesel injector cleaning set from Ebay for $20

shipped, This basically looks like 1/2 drill bits - turn both ways to clean out,

at the correct angle for different injectors + fine cleaning wires + a lot more.

Lucky me.

Sorry, brass parts! Not for sale, or rent or borrow.

Harbor Freight SS Industrial ? Ultrasonic cleaner $30 shipped too. - This was

through HF EBAY outlet, not a store!

If you have the ability to work on injectors,

I would definitely remove them.

If you can clean your own, OK

Other wise, they go to a diesel shop.

If you remove them and bring them in you can save some $$$

You will need new heat sheilds!

Have you disassembled and cleaned diesel injectors before?

How are you cleaning them? Are you using a wire brush to scrub the carbon off? If so, you've just destroyed the injector nozzles which would produce the symptoms you've described i.e. rough running, barely starts, etc. If you've wire-brushed them, you're going to have to rebuild all of them with new injector nozzles.

Since it sounds like you've disassembled the injector bodies, are you going to pop-test them and shim them yourself? Or will you outsource these steps of the process?

got iit running like a champ!!!! Thanks for help.

I had pulled the injectors out and soaked them in brake cleaner over night to disolve the carbon.I seperated them in different jars so I wouldn't mix the parts. Cleaned with hevy paper towels and ran thin wire thru some of the blocked holes. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention on the disassembly of the spring plunger. .That little piece that goes into the spring and rides on top of nozzle. like a dumb F*, I installed them upside down so the nozzle was getting pushed back up into the injector.
I pulled them all out and disassembled and corrected the problem. I noticed that one of the injectors was the wrong size than the other (4).

Four of the injectors had #666 on the top while the other one had #667.
The bottom of the injector was much longer. Thanks P.O.!
I went tho the junkyard and pulled out a #666 from a 300D ,cleaned it and reinstalled them all back in. Cranked right up and I thought Something was wrong. The damm thing was sooo quiet ,it was un believable. test drove it and had much more power!!

Thanks for all the help, support and needed abuse..

Info for others:

You can use either of the Injectors (a.ka. Nozzle Holders= the complete assembled Injector) mixed together in the first picture as long as the have the same Spray Nozzle and are set to the same Opening/Pop Pressure.
However, you cannot mix the inside or outside parts between the 2 types of Nozzle Holders.

Referring to the next pic with the drawing- the Spray Nozzles; parts #1 and #2 must remain together. They are a fitted set and cannot be mixed. If you mix these parts with other Spray Nozzles the they may stick/get stuck and the sealing area will no longer hole the High Pressure without leaking.

No pic for this. In order to keep the Opening Pressure for each Injector as close as possible all of the parts of each Injector (Nozzle Holder).
If you have swapped springs, shims and other parts around your Opening/Pop Pressures are going to be completely wrong.
