OM 603 injection pump problems
This pump is only feeding numbers 2, 4 & 6. There is no fuel at the
delivery valves for 1, 3 & 5. It runs on these three very well, I have ran it for over an hour at a time while trying to bleed the other three. I have ran it up to 3500 RPM. I removed and compared the delivery valves, blowing and looking through the holder, I found no difference. I replaced the five delivery valve parts at #1 with a known good set from my old pump, to no avail. I exchanged transfer pumps, no good. I pressurized the fuel tank with 14 psi air, no good. I restricted the fuel return line to insure a pressure build up, no good. I would appreciate any ideas and/or the name and number of an expert I could call. Hi HGV
I am loosening the injector lines at both ends and there is no fuel present. I ran a quart of Marval Mystery Oil through it last night, then let it set overnight and this morning I was getting a needle size spray from the # 1 delivery valve, it no longer does that now. Any ideas? Thanks, Harry 86 300 SDL |

Sounds odd. If you have not changed your fuel filter, do that first. Buy two cans of Diesel Purge. They have it at Fastlane. Search this sight for directions on use. It sounds like you have a severly clogged fuel filter. You might want to change the pre-filter as well. How does the car run? How many miles on it?

Henry, this is a replacement for the one that ate a bearing. The car was running good until that happened.
This pump may have been setting up for a few months and may have rust or something inside, preventing movement. Fuel delivery to the IP inlet is robust. Harry |

Well thats a horse of a different color. Call Pacific Fuel Injection in South San Francisco. THere number is 650-588-8880. THey are the experts on Bosch plunger injection pumps. Sounds like you need to start with a properly rebuilt unit and these are the guys to do it. Gus Pfister is the owner and he bought the facility from Bosch back in the 70's. He is "da Man". Should cost about 600 - 800 hundred though.

Ha ha
I talked to Gus about two hours ago, he could not suggest anything I could do on my own, but did offer to take my old pump as payment for his $120 testing fee. I have to discuss it with the seller first, he has assured me he will stand behind our deal and he may have other ideas. Many thanks Henry. Harry |

I am glad you where able to talk to him. Even though his offer sounds good, the end result will be the smae verdict. You need to have the pump rebuilt. You may want to consider to applying the $120 credit to the repair of the pump in lieu of having him bench test the pump. He is always looking for parts for these because it is difficult to get them from Bosch. I asked him once about testing the injection pump, and his comment was why. If it works it shouldn't be out of the car and if it is broken it should be fixed. Simple logic when you think about it.
