14mm Hex

I would have never guessed that I can not find a 14mm hex socket. I must have called at least 20 stores, nothing!!! Why is this so illusive? I did a search, and some posters had luck with Autozone, well, not I. Snap-on carries it, but its like $25, there's got to be a cheaper alternative. Any suggestions, Thanks

I found one...

...at a local Car Quest shop. They had both "L" shaped and socket. I chose the socket for $14.00, but "L" was cheaper.

(I assume you mean the allen-head type??)

I needed it to change the manual tranny fluid in my 240D. Problem is that the socket end was too long and I could not get it to fit into the filler plug! I ended up popping the pin outta the socket and using the allen alone in conjunction with a closed end 14mm wrench.

NAPA had them in stock too, but were $16.00. Not sure what application you will be using it in, but make sure your clearance will allow for the socket type. (the one I got is 3" long before attaching to the ratchet)

Just my experience anyway...

Thumbs up I found mine...

This is the set I picked up at AutoZone here in Mass.

OEM 1/2" Drive Metric Hex Bit Set 12, 14, and 17 MM, Part #25417, with a lifetime warranty for less than $10.

I've only used the 14MM to R&R differential fluid and the tool fit good and worked well. You could always buy a 14MM allen wrench at Sears and cut a peice off and use it in a socket! Good Luck!

Billybob, You da Man!!! Even though I had called several autozones, it wasn't until I had the part number from you, that they were able to locate one. I'm going down now to purchase the set for $7.99!! Wow, you can't believe how much effort I put into locating this damn thing. I wish I had posted earlier. Thanks again everyone for your posts, have a great Day!!

Question do you replace oring/seal on drain plug ?

Hi, I also had problems getting 14mm allen - eventually found at a local tool supplier for approx. $10. Have a question, I replaced my manual trans oil about a months ago and since then the drain plug seems to be leaky. If my (bad) memory is correct, it had an oring on the drain plug which I did not change. I am now afraid this is leaking. Does anyone here know if you are supposed to replace this seal and any ideas what the P/N is ? Thank You
