W140 Vacuum booster hose replacement

Anyone replaced the vacuum booster hose on these before? Its the vacuum check valve that Mercedes only sells with the whole long poly line that runs from the brake booster to the intake manifold. I tried to cut that (cracked) vacuum valve out and splice in a piece of hose but no matter how tight the hose and clamps it seemed to leak vacuum and start stalling. Im going to have to order this line it appears, but it kind of looks like a pain to install. It runs under a bracket that has wires running across it. Those engines must be very toucy when it comes to vacuum. I guess splicing in a piece of hose wont work. That little vacuum valve must be more important than I thought. Well, if anyone has replaced this part let me know any tips. It going to be minus 15 here in Minnesota this weekend, and I need to get this car fixed soon.

Same check valve broke on our 190E 2.3, and I made a similar inquiry about replacing only the valve, and apparently - the whole assembly is the only way they come. So, I ordered it and it arrived, but in the meantime I epoxied a whole big glob around the check valve to seal it and preserve its function, then followed that with RTV for an additional seal. My wife needed to get to work! Now, several months later, the temp fix is still holding well, so I haven't installed the new part yet.

The same check valve broke on my 2.3 today. I started to research it and my first inquiry found this.....Answered my question as to if I could just buy the check valve somewhere.(or not, as is the case)
After removing/reinstalling my air cleaner lid, the idle started to surge up & down. I knew that I had put some force on the brake booster vacuum hose because it's too close & tight against one of the air cleaner lid clips. I checked the hose and sure enough saw very slight crack around the check valve. Of course I had to mess with it and it broke clean off....
Anyone know of a good source for these at a reasonable price? Also, does anyone know the MB part # ?
Thanks,
Bill
