1997 e420 oil filteer
 

HElp!

Need to know were the oil filter is located on my 97e420..I'v run the threads in search and dyi and can not find. any help wolud be greatley helpfull

Inboard of the right wheel about a foot below the top of the engine. Don't look for a spin on cartridge. Look for an aluminum circle about 5" in diameter with two nuts holding it down.

You'll see it once you pull the air box out.

My oil filter cover is only held on my one nut in the middle of the cover.

I guess then I take the air box out and its under that unint?

do I take the top cover off alson meaning air hose into top of engine 2 bolts on rear of cover by firewall?

The oil filter housing is actually sitting right by the passenger side exhaust manifold. The only way to access it is to remove the entire (upper and lower) airbox.

It would be easier to:
1. unbolt the two bolts of the engine cover (near the firewall)
2. unclip the upper and lower air filter housing
3. Remove the upper air filter housing with the hose and the engine cover as an entire assembly
4. Remove the lower air filter housing (just pull up)


You won't miss the oil filter housing after that.

This filter housing actually has one central bolt that holds down the cap, not 2 bolts as previously mentioned. Yes, it is a bit of a pain to access the filter with that engine in that car. That being said, the E420 210 chassis is one of my favorite Mercedes.
