Neutral safety switch - How to replace

How do you replace the neutral safety switch in an 87 300E automatic?

And any other parts needed for job?

I couldn't find anything about it in MB CD manual

Thanks

I don't think this is on the CD - must be in the transmission repair manual which is not widely available. But the 124 Haynes manual does a pretty good job with it. It's a fairly tricky job - I'd hate to try to describe it all here. Haynes shows 14 steps with some pictures. Haynes manual is available at 303-237-0911 - it's a great thing to have even if you have the CD. I don't believe there are any additional parts required but there is one tool required, which you can probably make yourself - a 4 mm rod, for use in very tight quarters, to line up the selector lever.

Last night I traced it to shift bushings getting worn and not engaging switch fully at park. The NSS switch is actually fine. I will do a search in a few but I'm sure they can't be that hard to replace. Anyone change them before?

You can do a search on the shifter bushings as well - there's plenty of stuff. My advice is forget the long plyers and go straight to the nut and bolt method of getting the bushings on.
