auto tranny
Last night while towing my boat and almost home, had to stop on the freeway for construction work, as I press the pedal to start again, the engine revs up but the Chevy Suburban ****** shiiiiit, doesn't move. Police shows up stops the trafiic and I roll back into the side of the road. Disconnect the towed boat and wait for the tow truck.
As we waited for the tow truck, after shutting the motor off, went to try it again after a few minutes and I was able to limp home and return later to pick up the boat. What could it be, the fluid is full but the color is not the usual red. |
If the transmission overheats, it will burn the fluid. Fluid will turn brown and smell burnt if it was over heated. In extreme cases, it is possible to get so hot that the clutches start to slip and burn as a result. Change the fluid and see if it resolves the problem. The fact that it started to work after cooling off at the side of the road for a while might indicate that the transmission was overheated.

Changed the filter and fluid, found the filter definitely plugged with 68k miles of wear. will see how long it lasts and start looking for a stronger built tranny. lack of maintenance, now i'll pay the price.
