What type of power steering fluid can be used to top off the system? Mine looks like it could be marginally low and attributing to my odd sound of surging while turning the wheel.

Do I need the MB special sauce? Anything folks would recommend?

Mercedes says you can use Dexron III in the system. I personally prefer power steering fluid -- just like ATF but without the additives. You may want to down load the MB Approved Service Products List.

Do not use ATF it can cause leaks! Use power steering fluid only.

Anything over the counter at AutoZone or the likes would anyone recommend, or just stop by the stealership and get some of the MB goodness?

It's simply called "power steering fluid", and should be available for roughly $2 a quart at any auto supply place.
