What tires do you run?
Went to tire rack web sit to get information on new tires for my E420, I have mechlins mxv4 on now..Would like to get members advice on which tires they are using and why.
Thanks in advance MR.Lucky |
MIchelin Pilot Sports. They were stock on both of my MB's, they perform like no other and have always served me well. They might be a little too oriented towards sport if you've been running touring tires. For an all season alternative, the Pirelli P-Zero B&S (their all season one, I'm pretty sure that's the name) seem to be great tires for the clients I have that want performance all season rubber.
On my winter rims I run Nokian Hakipulitas. On my CLK 55, the few times I would actually take it out in winter, I could barely get the rear to move around in heavy midwestern snow. A good friend of mine drives his E46 M3 all winter with the Nokians on it, and same story. |
Michelin MXV4. Silky smooth and quiet, good traction and still good tread left after 62,000 miles.
|
Michelin MXV4. on one car Pilots on another . I prefer MXV4
|
I'm running Bridgestone SO3's on 17". A little heavier than the average tire but they're quiet, smooth and stick like nobodies business. ;)
|
My Mercedes-Benz had Michelin Pilot HX on all wheels, the standard size for a Sportline: 205/60 R15. Maybe they were the original ones(14 years old!!) maybe not, yet they looked only slightly worn. I've left them in place.

Running Pereli P400's on my 190e. thats what was on it when I bought it and they seem to be very good tires for that chassis. Good grip and decent tread life.

i just bought a set of GoodYear Eagles and they have been ok, not Pirellis but they are better than the Douglas disgrace that I had before
|
Michelin Pilot Sports - Noisy.... but they are damn good in the rain..
Michelin MXV4+ for winter (moderate driving at least) - nice and quiet but terrible in the rain. |
Sounds like mosf running with the michelins! Has anyone used the bridgstone tarusa ls that the tire rack talks about?
|
I have Turanza LS-H on the E300 Turbodiesel. Very nice, soild tire that excels in the rain. I have Potenza RE950 on the wagon, very good on dry and very good in the rain. I would recommend them both. They are both summer tires though and have no positive points at all in any kind of cold precipitation.
|
MXV4+ on the 300E at the moment, they were on there when I bought the car. Looking in the logbook I see the orginal factory tyres fitted were Pirellis.
Michelins seem good, very quiet and good in the rain and pretty respectable in snow. |
MXV4's on the Benz, Pirellli P-Zero's on the 911. Happy with both, and plan to replace them with identical (or the current version, at least) when I need to. Both cars are all weather daily drivers.

I run Bridgestone RE950s in Seattle, love 'em. Lot's of tire for the price. I had MXV4s when I bought the 300TE used, and they were absolutely positively dangerous in the wet and had premature sidewall failure.

Had MXV4's on the 300, absolute crap compared to Yokohamas AVS. They are now discontinued but replaced with the ES300's which have better silica content and are great for fast fall driving in colder weather. ;) And the price is right as well ...

Yokohamas on all of my MB's and my truck..........

You have to consider these tires! Kumho ECTSA
I'm running Kumho Ectsa KH-11 Grand Touring Summer tires on 16 inch wheels on my 300E. These tires are awesome, especially considering the price ($72 per at Tirerack.com!!). These are a VERY underrated tire made in Korea. They are very quiet, crisp handling, and have better wet traction than the all season tires I had on before. In the wintertime I switch back to the stock 15" wheels with Michelin Artic Alpine studless snowtires and drive on thoes for about 2.5 monthes out of the year. I was very happy with them last winter when we had much more snow than usual here.
Bottom line is I am very happy with this combo, and I can't say enough good things about the Kumho tires....did I mention how inexpensive they are? |
Try these
Running Kumho's Ecsta 716, with no regrets. Great tires overall, good traction and, most important, silent. Cannot believe I paid just $40 apiece.

BF Goodrich T/A at Sam's Club. Why? I would've bought them at Tire Rack but, couldn't wait. Needed them right there and then. $10/mounting anc balancing and free hazzard warranty helped. Treadwear rating was better than the Yokohamas previously that, lasted only 2 years. 205/60HR15 on a 1992 400E this time instead, of the 195/65VR15. Came out a little expensive around 3 bills ballpark for everything. Had a slow leak just three months ago. Fixed , remounted, and rebalanced. Don't work for Sam's but sometimes it is convenience that matters the most.

17" Michelin Pilot Sports on SL500
Tried Toyos and had to return them. Never could get rid of resonance at 35, 70, 105MPH The Pilots are pretty good tires and seem to be getting better with age. I'm hard on equipment and these tires handle it under any condition. Barry |
I have Falken Azenis 235/45/17 on my 98 E320 Wagon. They are the quietest performance tires I've ever owned. I will be replacing the 225/40/18 Dunlop 9000's on my wife's BMW with Falkens also. I've had five sets of Falkens over the last 15 years and loved every one. I've had several Dunlops and give them mixed reviews. Additionally, I've had three sets of Michelins and disliked them all. I live in Tucson, it never snows and seldom rains. :)
